I was looking at Alero upgrades and linked onto the GM transmission site and according to that the Alero and GA v-6's have the same trannies. The MN5 code trans.

Is this right? at least for the 2000 with the V-6. I want to buy a new PCM soon

Youngblood77 is an unknown quantity at this point
I have no idea Redog, but if that's true, getting a PCM for a 2000 with the v6 just got a whole lot easier....

You have to get the PCM from a Grand Am SE model. As great as it would be to have the GT PCM, the gear ratios on the SE and GT are different, so putting a GT PCM with an SE or Alero V6 could land you in a very FUBAR situation.

Yep the final drive ratio is lower in the ga gt but other than that they are identical excpet I think that the gt may have higher shift points and a higher governed mph because I hit 115 the other day so thats cool.

What everyone is saying is true, while all the 3400 GA's GAGT's and aleros have a 4T45E, the GAGT has a differenet final drive than that of the GASE and alero. So you can't put a GAGT PCM in your car.

Also the upshift points a slightly sooner in the GAGT due to the lower final drive, but the GAGT has a higher top speed, but this is because of the speeding rating on the tires. All GAGT came with 16 inch wheels and higher speed tires, where as the GASE and alero could come with 15 or 16 inch wheels, and not always the high speed tires, hence the lower, top speed.

OK I wasn't too sure about it since a 2000 has the "45" tranny but I did know about the final drive gear.

I was just hoping the quest for the PCM was going to be easier than it was. I know about ASE and DHP but I can't find anything about the PCM itself. i.e gains, etc

Hi. I am in the process of fixing my alero up. I was wondering if there is a shift knob for an automatic. I am wanting a dragon one. If you have any ideas please let me know? Thanks.

This is the response i got from DHP when i asked them about a chip for the alero.

We can create a calibration that has the same features as our GA cals for
your Alero (they aren't interchangable due to instrumentation and sensor
differences however).
