I'm getting an odd clicking noise..it just started....it's definitely coming from the engine compartment, and I know it isn't drivetrain, as it still did it when I was in park...when I revved my engine, the clicking sound got worse....it sounded as if it might have been coming from the block, but I'm not 100% sure...my car hasn't lost any power, and apart from the odd noise, is driving normally...any idea what this could be?

no real engine mods done either...just a K&N filter in the stock airbox

it has around 78,000 miles on it...and both me and the mechanic figure its the water pump...the clicking increases with revs, even when parked...and I have magically dissapearing coolant...what else could it be?

woah, that sounds like my car... When I accelerat at like 75% throttle, my low coolant light comes on, than turns off. And I do get the clicking noise when I rev it up to higher RPM's it almost sounds like somthing different than the water pump though. I'll have it checked out

I would check to see if you have coolant in your oil of if your burning it, because the water pump is in the timing chain housing and i've seen these motors start clicking with low oil or other problems and it could be the timing chain, tensioner, or guides and if any one of those broke say bye bye to all sixteen valves maybe a piston or two and thats if your lucky. just somthing to look for

I have the 3.4 and my water pump has a leak. I haven't heard a clicking noise in mine but I'll listen for it tonight after work. It just started to get bad yesterday. After work there was a big puddle of coolant and today after my golf game there was as well. I figured it was the LIM gasket but it is leaking on the water pump side. There is a stain on the underside of my hood because when I start up the engine there is apparently coolant trapped under the belts and when they start spinning it starts spraying coolant on the hood and on the radiator in front. Maybe you guys should check that out. I got a dealer price and they said $330 CAN. I have a call into my other mechanic and I know he will be cheaper. I had called him earlier about the LIM and he said $350 CAN.

there's no lower intake manifold to leak coolant...

and coolant wouldnt' leak out of the intake gasket anyway...

only way you would have coolant leak on a 2.4 is by the water pump, the head, radiator, and anywhere where coolant hoses would be playing their game at....

the clicking ticking could be from the water pump going bad as it IS run off the timing chain.. it could also be valves tapping chattering away...could also be a bearing going out too..

well the water pump and coolant system on a 2.4 are completely different so you can't even compare them.

I got 100,311 on mine and so far so good.

Well, his motor blew shortly after this thread was started, so I think he found his problem was terminal.

terminal to say the least yes...one of the rods gave out, and put a big crack in the block...I'm surprized the engine held out long enough to make it to the shop.
