I've been looking around for a cai. Searched on here and all the websites that people have suggested. Then I saw THIS on Ebay. My car is a 2001 2.4 5-speed. I read some where on here that someone thought the cai for a Cavy would work for the Alero as well. Is there any truth to that?
Also, kinda curious what this is gonna sound like since I haven't done anything else to the car, yet... Thanks in advance.

Not sure if it well fit I have a 3400 SFI with a custom CAI. The sound part should be about the same. Lower RPM normal driving you can't hear much of a difference there is some but when you gun it the car sounds great very loud bad ass sounding. I did find I needed to run the high grade gas in my car with the CAI installed. With the low grade stuff my car was a bit harder to start.

Yeah, I've heard the 3.4 with a cai and it does sound good. My plans are to get the CAI first and then exhaust. That's what I've found to be the best thing to do from the numerous different searches I've done on here. But I just didn't know about the one I linked because it was so cheap. Still kinda weary but then again, I'm far from being a pro at this.

From the looks of it, that would be considered a WAI, the length of the pipe will put the filter under the hood, the filter needs to isolated from under hood heat to be a CAI ? if I am wrong somebody please correct me.

Ok, this may be a dumb question but what is the difference in sound quality between the two? WAI would probably be better since it rains like every other day here, all year. I dunno.

I'm by no means an expert but the pipes on that WAI you linked to look way too short for our cars. Heres a post I had started a little while back looking into intakes, and I took a pic of mine after I got it installed.
Hope this helps.

Alright, so it's a wai instead of a cai on ebay.

yes, it's a WAI and by looking at it, im pretty sure it wont fit.
oh, and for the 3400, i see no difference in sound between cai and wai, but obviously a huge difference from the stock airbox.

Where did you end up getting yours from, coredump? The link you posted in the other thread or the one that '2000redalero posted?
Speaking of the one he posted, this one, does it matter if the intake is for an automatic or do you have to get one specifically for a manual?

Thanks for the links Skyler. That first one looked to be ok at 70 bucks. Not sure I want to pay 90 bucks for them to ship it 200 miles. Might be better off by calling them to see if I can arrange a pick up or something. The last one though, less than 25 bucks... I dunno. That's pretty cheap and you and many others on here always say, you get what you pay for. I might just have to go with the aem one if I can't arrange it to where I can pick the one up in Tennessee.

well tubing is tubing, alot of ppl i've seen buy cheap and sell for more, for all we know it could be the exact same thing, only painted or something. but if it's powdercoated, then yea, it's probably worth it. if it were me, i'd probably go with the one for 70.
and driving 400 miles (there and back) would cost more in gas than to ship for 20 bucks. FYI.

Not really, I've been to Kingsport before. Filled up when I left here, made it all the way to Kingsport. Didn't have to fill up again until I got to the state line on the way back. So 40 bucks for gas v/s 90 bucks for shipping, I think I'd rather take a road trip and save 50 bucks. But that's just me, I'm stingy with my money.

Sorry, guess I could included the link. I'm not too bright...
Anyway, I got it from RsmRacing. I was looking there today and the prices look like they've dropped. Well, they've dropped on the Canadian side anyway by about $30.
I do like the AEM intake that 2000redalero posted at that ultrarev site but after considering shipping, currency exchange, duty charges etc. it was cheaper for me to get the RSM intake.
As for any special parts for auto and manual tranny... no idea.

Nah, it's 70 for the intake and 90 for shipping. That's pretty sad, IMO, that shipping is more than the intake itself.

Thanks. I'm gonna look around before I buy anything but I do want to get it bought this week. I'll probably end up getting the one like '2000redalero was talking about. BUT, I'm still open for suggestions if anyone would like to give theirs.

I dont blame you for wanting the AEM intake. I think it'd look really good in red on your car.

I only paid 116.00 for mine shipped and it has a bit more to it then what is needed for the 2.4L by the looks of it. Can't be forsure. I would guess to make it cost you 50.00 - 65.00 with 13.00 shipping. I know a guy that makes custom intakes see how much he sells them for. Give me a day to find out.

Thanks, that's why I'm kinda leaning toward that one.

If you want to ask him you can, but in all honesty, I would feel more comfortable going with something like what coredump is talking about, the AEM. I'm not putting the guy down, but taking a chance on messing something up is just too risky. Hope you understand, no offense toward the guy that makes them though.
