Well, I did a search to see if anything had been posted like this before, but came up with nothing, so at the risk of getting yelled at for a repost lol, here goes... I've been having the normal problem the the hazard switch/turn signals not working, read about the recall and contacted GM and my local dealership... well, it seems my car was not in the recall list, and the part from the dealer is like $33. I've heard that the only problem with the unit is detached wires and that they can be soldered back together rather than replacing it... anybody tried fixing it themselves instead of buying the part, or is that impossible? I just thought I'd ask before my boy rips apart my dash lol :P Thanks!

if i recall the whole dash doesnt need to be torn apart to get to the switch.........do some search's on ebay and you might be able to find the switch for cheap on there.......if you talk to a manager at gm and tell them you dont understand why your car was not recalled when your having the problems and what not......they might just do it for you......

or maybe atleast split the costs.....

and also i thought the problem with the switch is that the solder joints heated up and connected to each other or something.......

its not too expensive to fix it, and replacing it is more of a reassurance than trying to re-solder it yourself cause it might just happen again ya know.......

but its up 2 u.....

Did you try to see if you could contact Oldsmobile directly or are they closed too since they quit making them? I thought they only were 2001 Aleros, Grand Ams and Malibus in the recall.

olds (or GM now) are sticklers for the recal process.
the recall was for 2000 and 2001 mine (99) falls outside and therefore not covered under a recall. The vin # must match with a 2000 or 01.

I must do myself. it is not hard to get to.
take out vent and take out dash gauge overlay there are I think 2 screws (one on each side) It should just pop out. Have not tried yet but probably will soon, before I get rearended for someone not seeing my turn signals.

It's not even all 2000's. I checked, just to see, and my 2000 wasn't recalled. I haven't had the problem though, so no biggie.

I have this problem in my 99. The weird thing is, I thought it was a fuse, so I changed the fuse and it worked again. But every now and then it quicks working, so, I pull the fuse out and put it back in and tada. It works... for like 3 days. lol. I really should just take the dash apart.

I just smack the dash above the switch when it stops working then it works again.

HAHAHA
Dude, I've done that so many times.. but it's almost winter again and it is happening more often. I may stop being lazy and bring it to a dealer (doubt it). Wasn't there a post of how to get to the switch yourself without removing the dash?..or would I HAVE to remove the dash to get to the switch?

check this out, the easiest way, take out intrustment overlay (two screws on top, clips on bottom) Take a flathead screwdriver in between the top of old hazard switch and dash, take you hand and smack it, not to hard you could crack the bracket. toke me 3 minutes to replace mine. no lie it works just be carefull. then slide new one in around the instrument cluster, you may be able to get it in through the center vent as well.
