OK now that I have you attention:

I want to get stage 2 heads and TOG headers. I figure that I've only put $1000 into the motor and $450 of that is labor.

My buddy at work tells me that heads give a lot of power and the motor is ready for a turbo or spray. I'm not looking for nitrous but maybe turbo. Also doing injectioners give the heads more power.

I run a CAI on the track but a WAI on the street. I also have P&P upper and lower as well as a 62 mm TB.

Who makes the best heads?
Is stage 2 better on a stock engine than stage 1?

I just want to do something that will hurt performance esp in the 1/4

Any thoughts

RSM is really your only option for heads. And doing heads won't make you completly ready for boost or spray, I'd check into stronger connecting rods before doing that.

TOG headers with new heads is a nice step though, you'll definantly see a nice jump in power there, maybe 35 horsepower if not more.

You don't have to go through any company for heads, dude. RSM doesnt actually do any of the porting themselves, they'll just take your heads, send them to a machine shop to have them ported (granted, the shop they send them to probably have a fair bit of experience porting the 3400 heads), and then charge you a premium for the work. You can find a local maching shop to have them ported, ask around and see if there's anybody who does good work. Basically the better porting job they do, the more time it takes, and the more they charge for the job.

The only problem with getting your heads ported is that there are no aftermarket cams available (yet) for the 3400. To really take advantage of the extra flow ported heads can provide, you need a cam with more lift, and more duration if you want to make more horsepower at the cost of some low end torque (and trust me you do... stock 3400's are cammed like a truck engine if you ask me).

Just get the RSM Super charger and you dont need heads or rods the 60 degree v6 can take alot of HP with no internal mods. Plus with a V6 I dont even know if there is a turbo but since it is a auto the turbo lag would be huge I would get the RSM superchager.

hmmm, although upgraded heads and rods are not a MUST upgrade... i'd still plan on it before going with a supercharger.

there are turbo kits, but stay away from the ITS kit.

if you want to look at the turbo kit... you can here...http://www.jdsperformance.com/index....&initemuid=591

and there is a cam for the 3400, but they dont list lift/duration specs.

but again, if you want to run more than 5psi with either application, plan on upgrading internals. contrary to what vtolds says, there are a few members with blown engines from forced induction.

they make turbo for the AT 3.4 v6, and they make a performance cam shaft for the 3.4 AT v6. and now a days with turbos today , turbo lag isnt really an issue anymore. just look in the performance page from the Home section of this web site. B)

crane cams has 2 cams avail, they say are for 2.8 3.1 3.4....
but i need to know what is stock cam specs for us
here is some cam info
1000-4000 198/204 duration@.050 .401/.423 lift....pn# crn-254112

1500-4500 204/214 duration@.050 .423/.423 lift....pm#crn-254122
both cams are 169.00, but there must be other ones out there, matt fuller should know where to get them, or specs with better #'s

as far as the heads go, im doing my own porting, fairly easy to do, but you need to know if your goin boost for sure, so the combustion chambers can be opened aa bit....if your not sure about boost, then go for flow and compression

if i remember right...someone from canada did a head swap(molson)?? and didnt see the numbers he was expecting at the wheels...perhaps 8 or 10 horse?...i cant remember...so just in case your expecting big gains and get dissapointed with results, but with heads, headers and you already have the top end of the motor, you should have a motor that pulls harder up top

screw the crane cams.... the sheer speed cam has .430 lift and 220I/230E duration @ .050... but 300 bucks.

hmmm, i just checked the specials section, for the hell of it and saw this...

hydraulic cam. 214/224 duration at .050, 443/465 lift, 112 lobe center (new) for 75 bucks.

75 bucks? nice.

only one small problem.

Camshaft is designed for 94-up GM 3100/3400 engines with OEM hydraulic roller cam. These engines have a cam signal sync ring with a notch just behind the first cam journal. This cam is not guaranteed to fit 2000-up engines that have a cam sync tab, but may work if the sensor is replaced with a pre-2000 unit and wiring issues are addressed.

The cams that are listed for the 3.4 are not for the 3400. That is a completely different engine.

Right now the only real option is to have a regrind done.

There is a newer thread over on grandamgt.com for a project to get a new cam done with in the next couple of months.

Heads are nice but for sure, like Final-Reality said, you really need the cam to bring out the full benefit. I have some heads that have been worked over big time but there is no way in hell Ill put them in till I have a good cam to take advantage of whats been done.

Definately get the TOG's you wont regret it!

I just talked with my mech today, and showed him the headers I just got and he told me to get the heads. <_<

He said that the heads with help push more exhaust thought with the headers plus it will be easier to swap the headers if the motor is taken apart.

He quoted me 600 to do everything, which I know isn't bad. Anywhere else would charge me well over $1000. :o

Right now, it's time for the hood, early next year, heads and headers. If I can get the car to hook up at the track, hopefuly I can say, 14's here I come.

BTW I'm not looking for 14 flat, 14.999 is still 14's

Automatics are actually good for turbos because you don't lose any boost when you shift
