I was wondering how disadvantaged I am performance-wise for having an Automatic Transmission Alero as opposed to a Manual.

well if you had the manual tranny that would mean you have a 4 banger and with auto you can have the 6, so looks to me like having the manual would be the disadvantage in this case...

GM makes really good auto's, so you aren't at that big of a disadvantage at all.

and double0, the 1/4 mile times between the 5spd 4 bangers and V6's are pretty damn close. Look at MAlero's times (mid 15's) with his 5spd 4 banger.

the disadvantages i have seen with my auto verses a stick is... the stick will have a better launch because you can launch at higher RPMS. Some ppl have told me to hold the brake with my left foot and press the gas with the other and GO!!, but!! with the traction control on, i still spin the tires

I have a 2.4 liter motor and a Automatic (not my choice) So double0alero would be wrong about you having a manual if you have a 4 banger becuase I dont and you may not either MartinT.

you need better tires. i launch at 2200-2500, no wheelspin.

Son, what I said was if you have a 5-speed, then you have the 4 banger... the manual transmission is not offered in a V-6 only four...so read up, if he has a 5 speed then he's got a 4.
