No Front Left Brake?? Jeez

so im in the middle of changing my pads, because they just started to grind (ya, i know, should have done them sooner) i do the driver side, what do i notice, the pad looks brand new, barely any wear at all. so i go over to the passenger side, sure enough, 1 side has just a little left, maybe 1/8"-1/4", the other side is completely gone. so basically, i have no driver side caliper...joy.

does this mean its "froze up"? anyway to "unfreeze" it? or do i just need to replace it? hope they're not expensive, because im broke

any input? thanks

so what brand rotor should i buy? raybestos? i see i can get them with pads for 75+30 core off rockauto....i need rotors too, but i have to wait....i cant even afford this junk. if i replace 1 with a raybestos, do i need to replace the other one with the same thing? or should i just buy a acdelco for like 105 off gmparts direct....???

first get your hydralic hose check to make sure it's not clogged. If its clogg your caliper will applied pressure but will not release. You brakes does have a spring that release the inner pad from the rotor but the outer one will contiue to wear the outer-rotor till the hydralic hose is either unclogged or replaced. Cost is about 15 buck and it take about 30 to replace and 15 minute to bleed.

on the driver side, NEITHER pad is wearing, at all, they look brand new. vs the passenger side, 1 is gone, 1 is almost gone

Probably a Caliper. To check have someone press on the brake pedal while You watch the caliper. If the pads does not move have someone press on the pedal lightly while You loosen the caliper bleeder...if You get a stream of fluid out of the bleeder then the hose is okay & the caliper is probably bad. Just make sure that the caliper sliders (bolts) are free & not rusted up.

Oops thought you said only 1 pad is being worn. Yea that definately sounds like a bad caliper. Check the spring makes sure its not rusted, which I highly doubt it rusts. And im very sure it not your hose if both pads are eaten away.

My car did the same thing in the fron the inside pad was gone but the outside pad was like new I put bendix pads on now I think my rotors are warped becuase they are titanium pads and harder than the stock rotors.

May not be a bad caliper, just the slider bolts, like someone else said earlier. Mine was like that on the driver side, I just soaked the mounting bracket (which contains the sliders) in some heavy duty degreaser and used a bench vise and vise grips to pull the sliders free. Then I recoated them with with lithium grease. The greasing should be done every time you have the brakes off to minimize the sliders from locking up.

unfortanatly i was in a time crush last night, i got off work at 9, started the brakes at 10, and had class today at 7am. so i just put the new pads in. i will jack it up tomorrow and see if the brake is infact working by having someone try to turn the tire while i hit the brakes....

if it doesn'twork, illtry bleeding it while someone hits the brakes, so if it bleeds, but the caliper doesn't move in, i guess the caliper needs to be replaced? when i clamped the cylinder thing to move it back, it slid back fairly easy
