Hello,
I am curious about the degree of difficulty in programming new GM remote keyless entry remotes to a GX (non-RKE) Alero. I am under the impression that the keyless entry hardware is already in the car (as far as the computer reciever for the remote's signal), and that the system will work if a new remote is programmed to it. I went ahead and bought two GM remotes online and tried to reprogram using the procedure for a '98 Regal. This method did not work. Does anyone have experience with this sort of issue? Would a dealer have diagnostic tools that could program the remotes to the car? Or am I just totally wrong about the RKE hardware being installed in my GX already? Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Ian

The GX does not have the Keyless entry box or the wiring harness. I had a GM/ACDelco aftermarket kit installed by the dealer in mine when I bought it new. The remotes look almost exactly like the GM remotes.

i tried the same thing...bought a factory keyless entry remote and went to the dealer to get it programed. they said they couldnt do it because my car didnt have the box or the wiring and that not every alero came with them from the factory.
