Anyone else having problems with rust? I have some surface rust under the hood on the welded lip on the front, and on the trunk along the edges where paint has chiped down to the bare metal. I remember reading somewhere in on my warranty that the car has a 100k mile warranty on corrosion. I'm not sure what all that covers, but I'm curious if anyone else has seen this. Tried fixing some of it with GM touch up paint. Looks ok, but up close you can tell that it was touched up. I may take it in and have the car buffed out and any defects with the paint fixed. I'm not sure if factory paint is worth the work, since it chips easy.

Before you paint it, you should put some of that anti-corrosion spray.

most warranties cover only "rust through" which mean that the corrosion causes a change in the shape of the metal, not just taking little chips off.

However, the paint is covered and if you have the warranty still, it would be worth it to take it in to the dealer.

you should have bought the rustproofing package when you got your car...i paid 250 for mine and have no regrets...no rust for me, however there's this damn goo all over the underside of the hood, but if it keeps it from rusting...good for the goo

My hood is rusted in the same place, it looks like poop. I also have a spot starting on the rear quarter panel. Where the gas cap would be but on the other side. Corrosion was 60,000 miles on mine, rust through to 100,000. There's no way it's going to rust through before 100k, so I'm SOL.

I had rust on my last one on the bottom of the rear doors (where the skin is welded to the inner panel), and at 50,000km (30,000miles) they had it repaired at a bodyshop for me, under warranty. Never hurts to try!

Thanks for all the replies, my car has 58k on it right now. I'm taking it to the dealer tomorrow, so I'll find out if my warranty covers repairing my paint.

I had a problem with paint chipping right at the bottom of the fuel cap opening (on the body, not the cap). I took it to GM once, and they repainted the entire section - so no complaints from me. It then started again, and they tried to get away with only putting the touch-up paint on it. Now, that didn't fly over very well with me, so even though it was well over the warrenty, they did it again, for the simple reason that it was already done by them under the warrenty. When it chipped again, it was "their fault".

The main reason for this post though, is make damn sure that GM doesn't just put the 'nail polish' on. They are supposed to repaint the area.

Ej.
