the speaker im looking at is MTX t6.6, its a 6.5" component system. its 2.7" deep.......whats the maximum depth you guys got to fit, whats for sure wont fit? its a 4 door if that matters..........i just dont want 4's anymore up front....
thanks
im also looking at phoenix gold zr6.5's....but they weren't hooked up, the mtx were and sounded great, a very warm speaker
what do you guys recommend?
i also looked at the kenwood excelon's, and soundstreams, but i like the mtx's the best

You will have to do some serious moding to get those to fit. I have the eclipse 6.5's. They are 2and 7/8's of a inch deep. A buffer of 3/4's of a inch needs to be installed or the magnet will hit the window. Unfortunately, the door panel won't go back on. I tried a few things. Removing the grill for one. I finaly took off the map pocket entirely. I then molded a new spot for the speaker to fit on the outside. If you want a good 6.5 that will fit, look into the diamond audio. They have some componants that are slim designs and sound outstanding. I actually regretted the eclipse after I tried them out.

anythoughts on phoenix gold zr components? i want a warm setup (they do have a 1" silk dome tweeter) with good midbass......i dont know if phoenix gold is "known" for in there speakers

It all depends on your taste. Remember that you don't have to buy anything. Have them set it up and see if it is right for you. However, be aware that every speaker will sound different on a board from what it sounds in the car. If the speakers are 2.5 you may be in luck. Just don't try to force anything in that will be damaged by the plastic of the door.

mini hijack, how did these speakers fit?
Im looking at some 5 1/4 components with a top mount depth of 2 and 5/16ths or some 6 1/2 components with a top mount depth of 1 and 15/16ths
Did you have any problems with the diameter of the 6 1/2's?

I agree. I had to make custom fiberglass panels to fit my comps (2 7/16"). They didn't even come close otherwise.

I watched the guy at the audio shop put them in and the mounted perfect no cutting at all , even he told me before he starting do the install that he might have to cut the door a little but i was there when he did it and the fit no prob, mine is a GL 2.4L 4 door don't knwo if that makes a diff. but they fit perfect i watched him do it.

The depth was my problem. 2 and 7/8's would place the magnet against the window and the cone slammed into the door.
