O.k. this stupid problem had been haunting me for some time now! The other day i was at werk (Circuit) and one of the guys did an Alero and messed up the Vent Selector control knob!!! Same problem i had but at the time i had no idea how to fix it! So if anybody else has this problem i hope this helps!

Symptoms - Basically you can turn the control knob but it won't switch where the vents go!

Problem - On the 2001 and later i think, with the knobs that have parrallel ripples in them, the knob is bad, the knob won't grab a hold of the shaft so even though your turning it, it really isn't doing shiot! Its just rotating around the shaft!

Solution - Get a new Knob!

At first i thought it was cause of the turbo and motor (the vacuum being different) or something else, go figure it was something so damn simple! I don't ever remember anybody with this problem, but i have also taken my A/C control apart many times so maybe mine was just worn down! Regardless if this does happen to anyone else i hope this helps!

You're not alone, it's happened to me a few times. Seems to only happen when I reef on the mofo in minus-a-kabillion degree temps. Once it warms up after a few days it all seems to be OK again. Since the first 2 or 3 times it has happened I've been much more gentle with my dial and there have been no problems since. I admit this might be a band-aid solution, but it works for me.

I have a similar issue, except with mine, after installing my stereo I no longer have the first two dots on the control that selects how much air is blown in. I took the console back apart and checked all the wire to ensure their connected, and it still doesn't work.

i had no air blowing on my first 3 levels. Turned out to be a blower resistor or something that the dealership covered and fixed for free under warranty.

that's gonna be the blower motor resistor also. Common problem.
