How Would This Sound?

I'm kinda a newbie, well, a semi educated newbie when it comes to all things car audio. I am looking for SQ, and I listen to indie music (the faint, death cab for cutie, ted leo and the pharmacists, bright eyes, etc.)

This is my proposal:
10in sealed sub in trunk
6 1/2 components on rear deck
3/4 tweeters (from components) to replace the stock tweeters in front doors
4x6 plates in doors


This will be a gradual change, probably made in the order listed. I would like to keep the stock HU, make no modifications to fit stuff, and am on a fairly tight budget (im a student )

The only thing, I don't know if 6 1/2's will fit on the deck, and I believe 3/4 is the biggest tweeter that will fit, correct me if I am wrong.

Whats everyone think of this setup?

i have 1" tweeters up front, in fact ive had 2 different styles of 1", and there's room to spare

what your proposing is putting the 6.5's in the rear, and then the tweeter up front, then putting another tweeter and smaller woofer in the door...right?

my suggestion is this...skip the 4x6 plates. they've got a 3.5-4" woofer at best, and suck for getting the lower midrange frequencies. i had and replaced a set of nice 4" speakers because i had no low's up front. id Install a 5.25" component up front, and the tweeter from that in the pillar.

then get a set of 6.5" coax's for the rear deck

you'd be suprised how much that rear seat muffles the sound from the sub. its on a big old thick piece of plastic, then if you have leather its even worse. you may consider cutting some holes in your rear deck when your installing the speakers. not in the trim piece, but in the sheetmetal, some 5" holes would work.

what stock system do you have? is it the cd/tape with a amp in the trunk behind the carpet on the rear left wheel well?

do you plan on amping your interior speakers?

Lose the 4x6s put the 6 1/2" in the front doors. 1 10 will do alright as long as it is a good 10 otherwise your probably going to be lacking there. You can use a bigger tweeter in the sail panels. I have 1" tweeters in mine. To make it work just snap off the top 2 brackets and use a little bit of hot glue to hold the tweeter onto the bottom bracket.
Your going to need an amp on the components no matter what stock headunit power is nowhere near enough for a set of comps.

Wouldn't the 6 1/2 components handle the mids?

Then the coxial tweeters, plus the tweeters from the components for the highs.

And lastly, the sub for the lows.

I kinda figured I would need an amp for the components, and of course the sub, so I was thinking a multi-channel, so I will only need one amp. Exact power output would be determined by what components and sub I am using.

Also, anyone know what kind of power the stock HU puts out (at 1%, not 5% like they probably rate it).

I should add that my friend put some rap cd in, and the rear 6x9's actually sounded quite good (with the bass turned up). But, I thought the goal was to let your sub handle the lows, and you would essentially turn the bass on your regular speakers down low or to 0, leaving them room to handle the mids and highs.

The basic stock headunit probably puts out around 5-15 watts.

if your doing it on a budjet, run a set of cheaper 6.5" coax's in the rear off deck power, there only rear fill anyways. then get a 4 channel and bridge 2 channels for the sub. be careful though, all amps can do 2 ohm stereo or 4 ohm mono, but not all can do 2 ohm mono. meaning when you bridge it for the sub, get either a dual 2 sub, or single 4ohm sub. guess it would help if you posted what amp/ speaks you were looking at

i had a bitch of a time getting 6's to fit up front, 5's should fit in the factory mount no prob.
