I installed my clarion 6x9's the other day, but unfortunately, they only have 1 set of wiring hook ups, where as the factory 6x9s had two sets of wires running to it, one from the factory headunit and uses crappy 20-guage wire, and another set of wires from the factory amp that's in the left rear of the trunk.

Problem is my clarion's don't have a second set of wiring prongs to hook up the amp to, so I'm left with them being powered by just the headunit and the poopty 20-guage wire, I'm broke so does anybody know how to hook up the factory amp to these speakers? They sound clearer and are a bit louder than the factory 6x9s I had in there before, but they don't hit as hard because they are grossly underpowered right now.

just bass eh....
Sounds like the other speakers had seperate connections for the high and low pass...
what i would suggest is if you are comfertable.... is that the aftermarket clarions that you have will either be 2 or 3 way...(woofer, and tweet or woofer, mid, and tweet) you need to supply the mid and tweet or tweet with the signal from the deck and the woofer with the signal from the rear mounted amp... this will give you the correct spectrum
to do this you will have to locate the connections on the speaker that go from the basket(or frame and woofer) to the mid and tweet....and dissconnect them and then adapt them to the factory wireing harness...or buy a new deck..lol
not exactly childs play....good luck

ah poopty... alright thanks... yeah they're 3 way... so the factory unit has like a crossover then? Could I remove the crossover and send the whole signal through the amp then?

ummm.... i see where your going... i would suggest that the xover is in the amp.. rather than in the deck.. either way it would be integrated... hard to eliminate...

what is the impedance of your aftermarket 6x9's... 8 ohm, or 4 ohm, or what...the factory speakers are 8 ohm, if its the factory HU, 8ohm is what its called for.

if you're saying they don't bump as much, it's not because they're underpowered, its because it sounds like your aftermarket's are 4 ohm, and the signals are being cancelled out between the HU and speaker...

you can either match the HU requirements which is an 8 ohm speaker,

or you can get a new HU to match your speakers requirements,

or you can TRY and physically adjust your speakers' impedance (i wouldn't )

The 2-way 6x9s that came stock had a tweeter running at 4 ohms and the woofer running at 2 ohms. That's why you get crap from the amp with your aftermarket speakers. Thanks to GM for having to use mismatched-impedance 2-way speakers. You can't even buy aftermarket speakers like that... jerks!

There are lots of threads about replacing parts (but not all) of the factory audio system--especially the problem with the 2-ohm woofers--on both this site and also on grandamgt.com. Do some searches and you should be able to find out what's possible and what's not for anything you wanted to do...

Good luck!
