new aleros 03 and 04's do not come standard with all discs...this is the reason i didnt trade my 3400 for an eco 5spd.....mfuller would prolly be able to help you with that one tho...as he has some pretty sweet brakes on his ride

Ahhh, thanks jturkey69. I wasn't aware of that change.

Why would they take a step back like that?

GM made Anti-Lock brakes an option Thus the drum or disc option. Stupid & cheap idea for GM in My opinion.Who the heck would want ancient drum brakes!

As it turns out for me, the trade off is a stickshift. It's pretty hard to find a stick with the ABS on the lot, but you may be able to order one (GM is making the alero to order until June). I, however, took my $11,000 brand new car and ran!

Thanks for the responses.

I would think the big issue would be where the calipers mount.

raising a dead thread here but what all do I need? Obviously caliper, rotors, caliper mounts etc....anything else? Also would the e-brake work the same? Also another option, could I put bigger rotors and better calipers on than stockers (obviously would be upgrading the fronts as well). another question, I remember a while back a member on here had his old rear disk set up for sale, do you still have it?

the easiest way i've heard of, is fine an older alero with some front end damage at a junkyard and salvage the rear assembly for the rotor setup.

...then check the performance sections for what aftermarket brake upgrades are possible. Cliff knows more about this then me. And Aftermath has his aftermarket brake upgrade on sale on ebay....

I never had mine onsale on ebay. I just posted up a link of a ebay sale of the baer big brakes from a GA. like 2 days ago.

But yeah.. just find an alero or Ga at a junkyard and get the whole rear assembly w/ the disc brakes. much easier and cheaper.

Calipers, Brackets, Pads, Rotors, Spindle, Hoses, E-Brake parts and cables. That's about it.

Well, you just have to make sure that the E-brake stuff is on the replacement knuckle. Other than that just the cables.
