Hey all,
not sure if it is from the sudden change in temp up here in Toronto, Canada but last week my dash (right in front of steering wheel) started to peel. The vinyl is comming right off and the glue is no longer adhearing. Has this happened to anyone before and how can I fix this?

Its not an uncomman problem for the alero to do that, it can be quit expensive to get it fixed, gl. if your ever going to mod your dash nows the time to do it.
Call around some vinyl shops and get a quote.

my windows are tinted, and my dash still peeled in the same area, above the steering wheel. I put a sunshield visor to keep it from peeling more. Vtolds, gluing it back down will not work, will just peel right back off again.

if you use the right glue it will work, you cant use elmers glue to hold it down. I would say Super Glue/ Gorilla Glue.

gorilla glue will hold anything. be careful not to use too much, it expands.

You could buy a dash cover to cover up the peeling-I saw one once for the alero but don't remember the site

i wouldnt' glue mine. And here is why, all because it will look tacky. My vinyl on my dash has "popped" up from right above the steering wheel. For me to glue it down, I would have to cut into the vinyl, and then glue it back down, to me that would just look tacky having that cut there. Like smlz said, just get it replaced.
IF u were lookign to buy a car and saw cut mark in the dash, would u buy it probably not.

you dont cut the dash silly, you peel it up till you get to the bubble, then use adhesive to stick it back down, you know, like the factory does it.

My new Alero is bubbling on the light tan area to the right of the glove compartment. It is weird, one day the bubble is there, the next day it isn't. I am still under warranty, I only have had the car a month, with 1300 miles. I hope this is covered!

I have to add that I have had many cars throughout my life, this is the first one to have a dash peel. My old 84 cutlass dash is immaculate, wish they still made them like that Is there any recalls or anything on this? This is something that you have to look at everyday while you drive!
Also, has anyone successfully recovered their dash in vinyl to repair this? I am just getting prepared for later down the road when my whole dash has peeled.

I had this happen on the 'ho, best way to fix it...
1. Take off dash
2. Peel a good section back (like just a little bit more than where it is wrinkled)
3. Sand some of the area underneath it, basically it gives the glue a better area to stick to.
4. Very carefully pull the top back down (think of it like you are putting on a sticker, kind of smooth it down as you are placing it.)
5. Reinstall dash after it has set for a while...
I did this and it lasted about 2 years before I had to redo it, but I live in Florida and the heat is crazy even with (non legal) tint....

I noticed mine starting to come up 2-3 months ago. And it's coming up in ripples. I've been using a sun visor on most hot days but that apparently didn't stop it from happening.
