based on the approx number of results (~80) i think the voters for alero were me and oldsman, with spy being the GA.
Fear not though. the TCM may be different for the autos but for us manual guys there can' be much difference. The real test is if the tables are the same and loaded into the same area of the PCM, mainly the later, if they are we're golden. I can't image there would be drastic changes between our PCM and the J-bodies, other than the tranny.
I'll try and pull a bin dump from my PCM and compare it to some cav/sunfire bins i've got.

the pin outs are basically the same between the n-body and j-body. i have found a few differences but nothing major.

the calibrations are different numbers but then so are several other things that cross ref to the same part....

heres the thing though, being the software downloads your calibration why does HP have to have the calbration? originally as long as the pinouts were the same we could use it.

best guess here. I know somebody will probably tell me I'm wrong.
Not sure why the pin out would matter since HPtuners (and most others) modify the software in the PCM and is independent of the wiring harness, with the exception of the OBDII connection, which is a relatively standard interface.
The tuner takes the software on the PCM (aka the calabration) and modifies the values in some of the tables (like fuel and spark) as well as other variables. If it doesn't know where in memory the tables and other values are it can not correctly modify them. The real deal, in my mind, is the location of these tables. If they are at the same memory addresses in our PCM as they are the j-bodies then we are in luck. If the tables are in different locations in memory (another calabration) then the tuner will overlay some unknown data and heaven only knows what happens then, but it is probably not going to be good. The reason HP needs the calabration is becuase that is what their tuner changes, not the hardware, which is what the pinout reflects. FWIW, we have the same PCM, as far as hardware, as the LS1.
I know HP allows some mods to the TCM on most of there vehicles which is why I pointed out that the TCMs are probably different between the Js and Ns. I know one guy one her might have some insight......
PM me your vin or enter it at calid.gm.com to get you calibration number and maybe HP can do something for ya, ohhh yeahhh, gigidi, gigidi.
Hope that helps

who knows. i would imagine they got to be damn close. if anything the TCM is different.
but far as modifying the TCM doesn't really bother me. it more of the engine side. but yet the VSS is probably part of the TCM also.
