hella is HELLA good. lmao.

but no, seriously. they supply all the HID in the high end european (german) systems. top notch.

but -alero- says get a cheap set off of ebay from jetiko or something. we all know how much he knows about cars, so i'd do that for sure.

you looking for bulbs/ballasts or projector assemblies to retrofit into your housing?

also, just a quick question. if the option was available, would you pay 1400 for hella OEM headlights, with projectors, bulbs, internal ballasts, plug and play wire harness (no jank splicing or ugly wires/ballasts anywhere) with perfect light output and cutoff?

its just a personal question.....completely theoretical, simple yes or no.

as of right now the bulbs and ballasts

only reason being that converting to projectors would be a waste of cash on this car as of right now, also because I'm 80% sure I'll have a different headlight combination with the next car.

I already know that without the projectors the light output isn't as crisp but I did like the setup similar to what Naich had before he got rid of it.

and a simple yes or no

no =p, not sinking that much into this ho', next car however I'm starting fresh

need a relatively decent but price conscious setup (ebay runs $200-350 on avg.), nothing too overkill since I'll probably sell it off when I get rid of it down the line.

who in thier right mind would reccomend ebay for HIDs? hell ive never even heard of jetiko.

i'd go through phillips if i could. but what do i know.......

i'd talk to anderbra for the E36 projector style. and look into online companies for HID 9006 kits. but once again what do i know....

yeah and i completley agree with you, so why do yo uthink im gonna spend 1300 dolalrs on headlights!?

and yeah 1300 is still over priced, when yo uknow damn well yo ucould piece together your own. kinda like the way anderbra does lights.

also there are shops that do retrofits i thought you knew that.

i dont care what you say, 1300 isnt overpriced for OEM quality with a warranty. and if our economy wasnt so poopty they'd be cheaper (for the VW). minus import fees and the exchange rate the HID's would be $1057

you're not gonna get better light output. there will be no cutoff, plenty of glare, and scattered light, it might be cool for a minute thinking "ooooh, bright" but all in all you just wasted money, and eventually you're going to blind someone in front of you (hopefully a large truck) and they're going to kill you.

so, projectors... $150-200 (e46, audi tt, e38), shrouds $100, anderbras services? maybe 250 to 500. ballasts for D2S about 100 each. bulbs 40(garbage)-200.

and these prices are all bottom dollar ebay stuff.

so, at the cheapest, you're looking at $780, and max you're looking at 1200-1400.

As some may know, I did a lot of research on HID's. Here are some points to add to the discussion:

1. FormulaNerd: I would buy those in a heartbeat. Some people may kid themselves and think they could do it for cheaper but they are full of poop. Even if you pay yourself $20 an hour for labour, your costs are going to get WAY up there. Your material costs alone will be close to 1G atleast.

2. What kind of kit to buy: Phillips or Hella. Both are equally as good. Make sure the balasts AND bulbs are both Phillips/Hella. Some places will use poopty bulbs. (Naich's kit). Check www.xenonfactory.com. Full Phillips kits.

3. Retrofits in the alero: Glare isn't THAT bad. They are drivable. You will notice significantly better lighting. I think I only ever got flashed once running this way for about a year. Get 4100K bulbs. Nothing more than 5000K. They all look white anyways without projectors.

4. If you get projectors, get Hellas. Get Eurospec ones too.
