have a 01 alero 3400 65k miles. every once and a while after driving, the car will jerk hard into 2nd, and then slightly jerk into 3rd. it will keep doing this until i shut the car off. if i turn it back on, it will stop doing it, but then will randomly start up the next day. is this the transmission going? was driving by an older female before me, some i hope the transmission isnt going, since i bought the car a week ago.

the exact thing happens to me. When the car is cold it runs very smoothly but when it gets to normal temps (around the half way point on the temp gauge) it starts getting jerky. I'd also like to know more about this.

add transmission fluid, easiest thing you can do to try to fix it, i had the same problem and then eventually it started slipping between first and second so i added a quart of tranny fluid and its smooth as new now, so first try putting a pint in and drive it for a while, then add another pint if you are still having problems

At 65k, you should have the trans fluid flushed. I doubt the trans was serviced before you got it.

Just wondering if you ever got your issue fixed?

Not yet. I'll replace my trans fluid soon enough; i'll post here about any results afterwards

I'm thinking about getting my flushed and renewed soon..... i got my car used at 75000 and im not too sure if they changed the transmission fluid at all...... do you think i should just change it to be safe? i'm thinking about getting royal purple tranny fluid....

It's always good to do PM work on a car, but this isn't something you can do youself.

The tranny holds 14 quarts of fluid, if you drop the pan, you only get out 3 or 4 quarts, it has to be hooked up to a machine to get all of it out of the convertor and other tranny places.

I wouldn't use royal purple. I've heard that is doesn't good too much good for a GM transmission. Stick with the GM OEM fliud. It's the best thing for the car

Well, the OEM fluid is Dexron III, so any fluid meeting that spec would be good. I myself would go with Mobil1. You can also flush all the old fluid out by disconnecting one of the cooler lines and routing it to a container, then start the car and fill the trans while it pumps the old fluid out. You'll see a color change when all the old stuff is out.

i have a 99 alero coupe, my car does the same thing,i was told by a mechanic that it is either the e-tranny programming for a harder shift with higher line pressure, or torque converter, witch is common on this car :smokin:
