New Deck

Hey everyone.

I bought a new deck for my 2000 Alero cause the factory one was starting to suck.

I bought this deck

Now I wanted to do the install myself, and I researched for all the install parts/kits I could find locally. Every store I checked sold the scosche stuff so I picked up the mount bracket suitable for the 2000 alero and the Wire Harness for the 2000 alero.

I also had a Hayes Manual to help in removal of the different sections of the alero. Everything went pretty good, although the deck doesn't quite sit right in the space, as the front bezel doesnt allow it to fit properly. Everything works, but it just doesn't look correct. Does anyone have any ideas? I searched here for a How to on installing a aftermarket deck here on the forums and found nothing for a 2000 alero. Any help would be appreciated.

so.. the problem is it sticks out too far? you weren't really clear on that...

i think thats just due to the plastic in the back. get a dremel and cut that out. problem solved.

if it is that it stuck out too far i had the same problem with the harness. there is a spacer that goes in before the deck, i just took that out and it fit just fine. its just a quarter inch thick spacer that fits in behind the head unit

THe problem is I can't fit the deck flush in there so it looks like it is installed proper, instead the outside edge peice that is in the stereo kit to cover up the bracket won't fit because the front bezel is too close to the stereo

ya, cut the black plastic piece inside the dash. it's just there for support of the stock cd player i think. then u can push it all the way back so it locks in it's cage.

if your radio trim still wont fit, unfortunately theres not much you can do to make it fit properly without cutting it, or the stock radio/hvac bezel. you could try to find a different dash kit that has a stock looking radio trim with it.

i know i had to use a dremmel to remove some of the metal houseing behind where there headunit sits to get it to go far enuff back to sit flush

yeah i have that same soche kit so just remove the plastic thats behind the cd player inside the dash and kinda mess with the wires that are on the cd player and it will fit

Hmmm I wasn't sure about cutting that out, but it looks like I might just have to do it.

Any recomendations on how? I have a dremel, but its quite a tight space to get even the flexable handle in there.

use a hole saw, and then break it out. no one will see it anyways.

mine fits in there snug..i just had to push some of the wires out of the way and it went all the way in...but i also pulled it out just a bit cause i wasnt sure if the motorized flap would catch on my neon i screwed in there =/ still its a damn good radio, and if you got an ipod you dont have to spend 90 bucks on the adapters and poop :biggrin:
