At first I thought my A/C was just our of R134A but I soon figured out that my A/C will only come on if I turn the A/C on, turn the car off and then start it back up, only then does my compressor kick in...anyone have this problem?

Not that I know of...however it seems as though my A/C works somewhat sporatically so maybe that is the case with mine...I'll check today when I go to work
Especially since I paid to have it recharged and it still doesn't really work

I was gonna pay to have mine recharge too until I figured out how to make it work. Once I restart the car it works great until I shut it off again. Glad I didn't spend the money to have it recharged.

Sounds like you all might be having problems with the blower motor resistor. These are a big issue and they are cheap to replace. About $20 at any auto parts store.

my a/c went for a crap not too long ago either...i'm just gonna get rid of it tho...mantapart has an a/c eliminator pulley so i'll just do that..i'd rather roll around with my windows down anyways

I've had to replace the resistor in mine. Next is the actual blower motor. I have no A/C issues. It blows too cold for me so I never use it. I just cruise with the sunroof open and windows down.

You could actually be overcharged with R134A... when my dad put a new A/C unit in his car and had it charged, it still didn't work. He was super pissed but his mechanic told him he may have put too much in and he would, I dunno, let some out or something.

Hey I need a little help in this area. When i'm not runnig my A/C I get this horrible metalic pinging/clanging. As soon as I turn it on the noise is gone, the A/C works just find, nice and cold. Is this somthing simple or Gonna break my wallet.

A/C clutch/pulley is shot, mine went too.

Do you have to replace the entire A/C compressor or just the clutch/pully?

sentence 1: while that is a common problem, your diagnosis is incorrect.
sentence 2: I can live without HVAC in my car, but it is cheap.
sentence 3: yes, it is about $20, but finding an auto parts store that actually has our resistor is like trying to find a Taco Bell that sells burgers.

AutoZone stocks the blower motor resistor for the Alero.
