it's June 15 &16 and it's in Michigan somewhere And it's a huge car show. i never went so one of the guys who has went could fill you in a little more.

ok now....what is it?? i figure its some sort of car show..but a better explanation would be nice :)

oh and is there goign to be a sextion of just aleros if enough of us go?

its the oldsmobile annual homecoming show...ASS is what we call it on aleromod because its the single biggest (and usually only) alero meetup. But its more than just aleros...its the olds homecoming show so its all old oldsmobiles and whatnot. usually an amazing time. I'm going to try to make it out there this year.

actually i guess it will be the night of the 14-17 although most people leave early early early on sunday except for a handful of us.

yes we all park together at the show

and actually there are two shows, one for just aleros in the hotel parking lot (friday) and the olds show on saturday.

I truly am lookin forward to it, haven't been to the Homecoming since 2001(before ASS). Been busy with work and last year I just wrote the wrong date in my work day planner, That SUCKED!

I hope we can have a nice caravan of Alero's from points West and our brothers from "The Land of Cheese" hook up in Chicago area for the final leg of the trip to Lansing.:beerchug:

chances are good that my wife will want to go see her parents in muskegon so i will probably be alone. it wouldnt be ASS if we dont share a room! no sense in breaking the tradition.

I'm trying to find out for sure what day summer school starts so I'll know if I'm going to be able to come up or not, I'm hoping it will hold off til that following Monday, but I don't set the dates or the rules...

I'm not following on what mess there was with the convoy last year except that it seemed to be much longer than it needed to be

Oringally, I wasn't going to be making the trek becuase of the wedding and honeymoon being 2 weeks before, but the g/f and I talked about it and we rearranged the honeymoon a little bit so we can still get the car ready and drive out. Our trip to St Lucia is starting a day early, and ending a day early, so we can make the trip.

What I meant by last year didn't really have to do with Riche and crew being behind, it was just the amount of driving for us. We met up outside of Pittsburg at around noon, which was cool! But we rolled into Lansing at about 8 or 9. We left Philly at around 5am. It was just too long of a day for us. It was like driving to Flordia, which was rough.

Plus it gives all you Pittsburg/Ohio guys a better head start instead of waiting around for the 5 to 6 hours it takes me to cross PA

yeah, the convoy this year did take a bit long. I left my place at 7am, and we arrived at Lansing at about 8:30pm (IIRC). But the previous year, I left my house at 7:30am and arrived at 3pm without the convoy.

so the convoy is fun, but it takes too long.

I wouldn't call it a betrayal...more of a detachment. betrayal would mean that I did something that is soooooooooooooooooo backstabberish, which is not me. Don't get me wrong, Candy, i still consider you and Lindsay to be friends of mine, but I have to really focus on me now (jobs, military service, family and g/f issues, etc), and this is how it has to be for now. maybe later on in life we can talk like we used to, but now is not good for that. I hope you understand that.

So as I was driving up to Cleveland today, I got to thinking about the convoy and how it slowed us down, but how that was half the fun and I thought of a solution. What we could do is give approx times that we're going to be driving past certain points of the ohio turnpike and if you're there and want to join in then, you can, otherwise...your loss. The whole stopping every 50 miles to pick people up really slowed things down. If the group from pit is going again, that was a decent meeting point for us and a decent time cause we were all able to eat some lunch before we left...just an idea...kinda how we met up with randy last year...he was just driving and joined in...even if we have to just slow down a little bit for somebody to join in, we're not exactly stopping forward progress

haha oh man this thread is hilarious.......... for numerous reasons.

as for the convoy situation.......... i understand where ken is coming from how all the stops made the trip take that much longer..... but if i recall correctly..... when you guys ment me on the ohio turnpike we were on our way within 10 minutes of me getting there os you guys mightve spent 20 minutes at the rest stop tops i would imagine...... then we picked randy up and then had to stop again cuase i hit a fuckin truck tire and wanted to check my car but that only took about 5 minutes.

the real problem was joel/richie/collins slow ass. i knew joel would end up being late even though he claimed he was gonna leave befor we would even get to him. i think everyone did a good job in terms of meeting up with the convoy atleast once i joined it..... its just that joel took forever but there were alot of reasons he was running beind too (painting 2 cars in 10 days then reassembling and then takin collins dash out and reinstalling, just to name afew things) to be honest we were wiped out by the time the show came around.

but next year we will improve the convoy concept

what way did you guys go? 80/90 is the only road that goes west/east in northern ohio. i usually take 23 north by toledo which will get you into MI and then 96 west to lansing.

its still up in the air though. i'll definitely be working, but i might also be in school. work can get vacation, but school can't. plus, i might also be visiting some friends in NYC, which takes presidence over ASS.

so it all depends on how everything goes, in spring/early summer '07...

speaking of making one's self a target...driving on the 290 East...70mph in a 55mph zone...approaching a trooper, so I hit the brakes so I don't pass him...then all of a sudden another trooper comes out of nowhere with his lights flashing!!! Yea we kept in pretty slow thru ohio then opened it up in michigan. Although on the way back i averaged about 80 - 85 the whole way.

to answer jon's original question................planning or anything for ASS 07 has not started being planned yet. so reserving a room under group will not be available until i sign contract with hotel.

far as what is ASS and blah, blah, blah..............

the Alero Show & Stravaganza is a the largest Alero Meet and car show. put on by the Alero Chapter of the Oldsmobile Club of America. It is also held the same time as the largest one day Oldsmobile Show, the Olds homecoming show.there is door prizes and all kinds of fun. we have been in the local paper, on the local news, and in the OCA magazine. so a decent amount of exposure.

if your car is not show worthy it doesn't matter because you can bring your ho and not show but hang out and see other have done up close and personal.

going the way we did........ into indiana...... only adds 30 minutes as compared to going the way jon talked about(takeing 23N in toledo) but it is MUCH more likely that you will encounter a traffic jam going that way during the evening hours so it is actually better to go the way we went last year

i wanna meet some of the people on here and see their cars, it would be sweet, its a little far for me but i think it would be worth it. If its June 14th-17th then i might be f*cked because of regents examslol if i have to take any those days
the big event is on a saturday, so if you can get out of school early on Friday and check in at the hotel on friday night, party with us, and be up in the morning for the homecoming show (show starts at 9:30, usually, and we'll convoy down right about that time so we can get pics/video, and we'll get a whole row and then some at the show)

He is correct! See a little of America on the way. I drove to a OCA Nats. in California(1985-6?), from Chicago, it was a great time. Went to the Texas Nats this year, 1/2 way thru the trip we decided to take smaller highways. You meet some of the most down to earth people in the world that way.

In a caravan they're even more fun, get some 2-ways or CB's so you keep occupied and don't waste cell minutes.

If it's a matter of money find ways to save, split a room(not with me), pack a cooler with pre-made lunch's, snacks and cold ones (Soda Plz). It can be done economically and still be fun

Suck it up, Saddle up, Stop your whining and get those ho's pointed towards Lansing. Somebody said that they would be happy to see 30 Alero's there, How bout 50 that's a nicer goal.
