You need to use two 13mm wrenches, one on each bolt. Can't really do anything about the wire twisting with the bolt, just have to find a way to get it to work.

If you can get a pair of pliers SAFELY onto the bolt closest to the alt then it should do the same thing, or two pairs of pliers... Improvise man just don't break anything.

that is the most important line in the upgrade lol without it you just upgraded the grounds on your car but not the power

When I did this it was so cramped and close in there I didn't even attempt to take the bolt right out. Instead I clipped off the end of my ring terminal, and made it a spade. Loosen the bolt, slip it in and tighten.

Try putting a 1/2" Open end wrench on the alternator side and a 13mm socket on the nut.

13mm= .511", .5" = 12.7mm- and wrenches are always a bit over. Should work :)

Sorry to thread Jack. But since you are no longer an alero owner I think it is fair game :)

Is the alternator fused? Or is the new wire directly connected from battery + to alt?

no its directly from the batt to the alt.

and also thread jack, does this upgrade really make that big of a difference? cause i have a serious power need problem with my system

its directly connected. when you upgrade, you CAN put a fuse inline, but you don't need to.

yes, it makes a huge difference.

I know for a fact you've read and posted in threads about this upgrade. Were you dropped on your head or something? Do a search already.

Let me make sure I'm understanding this
Battery cables ground cables and alternator cables???

yes. the stock wiring is incredibly insufficient for aftermarket stereos of any kind.

so you need to put a lower gauge wire from:
the alternator to the positive terminal on the battery
From the negative terminal to the body of the car
From the engine to the body of the car.

Those are the Big 3. It greatly improved conduction.

thats sounds fricken easy if your leaving the stock alternator, what guage is best with out being too much

If you ever plan on replacing your alternator with a High Output version....

go 2ga.

if not...

go 4ga.
