so far summit has the best prices I've seen on headers for our car

http://www.summitracing.com/search/make/OLDSMOBILE/engine-size/2-2L-134/engine-family/GM-4-cylinder/Department/Exhaust/Section/Headers/?Ns=Rank|Asc

and I believe the official rating on hp was 140

For real...Where in hell did you hear that number...You gotta start gettin your facts straight dude...140 is always what I hear

HazMatt24

btw, Pacesetter is located here in Phoenix and it's more expensive to go get a header from them directly than it is to order from Summit

Fenderxcore
02-19-2010, 03:12 PM
And to add...I am very happy with my Pacesetter armor coated header, Magnaflow High Flow Cat, and Pacesetter Catback (Yeah I bought it, sounds ricey before operating temp...Once warmed up it's actually kinda deep) All of which I got through Summit with no problems.

http://i646.photobucket.com/albums/uu190/Brasseur/11130911321.jpg

I'll get a pic of the header someday when I'm not feeling lazy...I put it on in November and there is no evidence of any surface rust yet...So far it seems like an awesome product

AbHeLlRaZoR

I think I'll get the Cobalt SS header...

it's alway been 140 @ crank, I laugh at kids who are all about crank horsepower, personally I could care less about hp I just wanna go fast...

I went Flowmaster 40 and the only time I think it sounds ricey is if you stomp on it right away. Firing up it sounds awesome and give it a minute to warm up and it has a pretty decent sound wot (I think I actually posted a sound clip on here somewhere). I had the shop I got it at do 2.5 cat back, cost me about 2 bills I think, I honestly don't remember. Did you actually do the header install yourself?

Next time my sis comes home I'll see if i can use her video camera...I'm pretty sure I can upload stuff online from it

I'll try and do a in-car/out-car vid

I'll elaborate more...It's DEEP till you hit about 3200 RPM's which is a little higher than your average shift point if you're not driving like a maniac

Once you really get on it it gets a higher pitch but it doesn't sound half bad at all...I've seen the vid of the exhaust on the 2.4 an I promise it's much healthier sounding

I had just the catback on for a little over a week before I put the header and CAT on and that sounded real nice and deep at all RPM's

Yeah I did the install myself...Not hard at all cept for becoming friends with swivel sockets for some of the manifold bolts...Also needed a 3 foot extension to attach the downpipe to the header from under the car

HazMatt24
02-19-2010, 03:31 PM
guess if I'm gonna do that I need to either do it in the next two months, wait until November, or have a shop do it. I'm not trying to work on a car in AZ in the summer. Did that last year with my wife's cousin's Accord. Nothing like sweating balls at 2 in the morning

I got jack stands and that's about it. Fucking car is like 4 tacos off the ground too with the sprint spring drop I have. F it, I'll just find a shop that will put it in.

The LSJ header is pretty close fit, first I was like fuk aint gonna fit, but i havent had a problem hitting or rattling even when there is engine movement while shifts. Ill recommend ya get the armor coated one tho, I regret not getting it, the black one melts the paint in about 10 mins of driving after install.

AbHeLlRaZoR
02-19-2010, 04:33 PM
yeah Fender Reccomended getting the Armor coat so that's what I'll get.
I would go for a 4-2-1 set up but I don't want the Tsudo and the Rk Sport & OBX ones are out of my budget

here you go, keep in mind I don't have a header installed yet, and it isn't the best camera in the world, it's at night so you can't see anything but I wanted to get the sound up

So that's just the 2.5" cat back with the Flowmaster 40, no resonator?

Once I get mine installed it should be pretty mellow and deep, I got a 2.5" Magnaflow muffler C/C (To be installed in place of the resonator), and a 2.5" 4x9 Oval Magnaflow Muffler, plus a oval tip waiting to be installed.

HazMatt24

I got the Cosmo intake but I had fitment issues with the battery until I went to an Optima. The Duralast or whatever with the post extender for the amp was rubbing the intake tube.

heineck

no joke, im rockin tape over the pos. terminal so it doesn't touch the intake.

I did that too. Got plenty of clearance with the Optima though. Problem is, I didn't use the bracket originally due to the terminal touching and now I can't find it  Guess this means it's time to clean around the house

colonel6632

02-24-2010, 07:05 PM
I ordered the short ram from HPS, don't think anyone on here has one, payed $171 shipped from Auto Grimmig, customer service isn't bad, just a lot of people with an Asian accent working there...<--- No offense to anyone on here.

Seems all ecotec owners on here have the one from Cosmo, just wanted to be a little different lol.

colonel6632
02-24-2010, 08:12 PM
cosmo is $40 cheaper, so thats why i went with it

AbHeLlRaZoR

Malibu369258

I'm sure cops have way bigger fish to fry than some guy who has an air intake that doesn't have a CARB tag.

I wouldn't be so sure of that in California... They probably thrive off that stuff.

yeah, California is so broke I heard they were gonna start going after people with unlicensed dogs so a CARB tag isn't surprising.

heineck
02-25-2010, 12:22 PM
Yea its horrible, they put like 200 more stoplight cameras and shortened the length of yellow lights by a second and a half, and if u run one of those "rigged" lights its $437. Yea cops out here will bust ur ass for anything and evrything. I was at a redlight once next to a black and white and a cop actually got out of the passenger side, walked behind my car to look at my exhaust and then got back in. I think they were lookin for a fart can and since they didn't see one they let me slide.

AleroDrime

speaking of exchanging filters spectra has a filter available at autozone, its end is breathable unlike the cosmos whos sides are only breathable, would there be an actual difference in these?

HazMatt24
02-25-2010, 04:20 PM
if you're talking about the eco with cosmo WAI, I highly doubt you'd notice any difference based upon the placement of the filter in the car

Ehh LAs got its good and bad. The thing is, there's such a huge population of illegal mexicans who come over use our medical sevices, skip on the payment, take under the table jobs and don't pay taxes. There's no way to make money off poeple who aren't on the grid that's y all of us who are have ridiculous taxes on evrything. A year ago our registration fees were doubled My moms yearly registration for her car came out to around $240

The GP: M62 to L61 GM Throttle Body Spacer group buy is taking place right now. GM p/n 12590814. This is the OEM spacer made by the original company that made them for GM. This is the only way to get an OEM adapter, since GM discontinued the kits. This has been the piece that everyone needs and scare ppl away cause they dont have the fab skillz when they are piecing a Cobalt S/C kit. heres a link http://www.ecotecforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=12062

Crate Engine Depot still has the GM supercharger kits for Cavalier/Sunfire 2.2 Ecotec in stock (leftovers), I e-mailed them today and got a response back in a few hours telling me that they have "plenty in stock." If anyone is interested it'll cost you about $2500 shipped. Just a heads up for people that were looking.

FYI.. Crate engine depot changed ownership from Lattoff Chevrolet which was one of the GM dealers that got closed to Rockenbach Chevrolet.

@ $2500 hmm I could buy a used m62 from a Balt or Redline, HP Tuners with credits, a wideband gauge kit and, redo the exhaust lol the only upside to buying from crate engine depot is you're not buying used.

If they still have one by end of Summer, I will buy one regardless, I like new, unused parts..., plus its a complete kit.

Question for Vic28, I know your running on the Cavalier Supercharger tune, how's that working for you, any issues? Just asking since your the only Alero I know that's actually using the dealer tune...

The tune is running the car fine(like if is a cavy). What doesnt work on my car is the Gas gauge(believe is related with the BCM not matching a jbody). I also have the Check Vehicle Soon, which HP tuner says something about wheel spin. I think that has to do with the wheel diameter. Ill get the codes tomorrow from HPT cause I cant remember from top of my head.
As far a the tune itself, it runs pretty rich at WOT. Too rich means its robbing power. It does allow you to drop a different pulley to make some extra PSI and compensate for being too rich.

I do plan to have the car tune once I have everything on it. Im satisfied with the tune since it gave me the option to run the car like if SC came on the car, and test all my installation, plus it gave me time to buy the other stuff.

not yet lol... im trying to install the aftercooler when the weather start getting higher 40-50s. Also drop a smaller pulley and than tune it maybe even throw some cams. I might dyno it before all this so I can compare before and after. Im so damn anxious to hit the track too  .

Still hard to tell... too much distortion.

Anyways, I'm still looking into the supercharger kit from Crate Engine Depot or whoever else has a new complete kit, expensive I know, but I got mad overtime coming at me in the next few months, which will pay for this no problem.

I talked to a few shops in Denver area to do the tuning once I'm done with the install, and most have been giving me an estimate ranging from $300-$500.

Thats sounds like a resonable price range and you dont have to buy HPtuner unless you want to. Btw with a blower the exhaust is gonna be louder but I think you know that, and I mean comparing n/a to s/c on the same setup.

Cat-back exhaust will be done here shortly, already have the parts for a cat-back, header will be done later down the road.

Theres a grand am turbo ecotec 5 speed..im hopin to get my bro a cavy and swap my setup and go turbo. My supercharger is still fun, and I can run about the same power a turbo would give me before blowin the motor.
