ok so i couldnt find a wiring harness for the 2001 alero locally so i found out you can use one from a 2000 so i did that and for some reason i could only get it to work by turning the lights on when i wanted my radio to come on dose anyone know why?

Because there is no switched 12v power at the head unit due to the changes in the wiring from 2000 to 2001. The 2001-2004 head unit is controlled via the Class 2 Data Bus.

Go to your local walmart and get the Schoshe wiring harness for 99-02, 04 something like that general motors. Should have Grand Am/Alero listed on the back. U still need to tap a fuse for acc power if u want it.
Someone correct me if im wrong. Im buzzed....
