I have tried disconnecting the battery to see if that would fix it but no avail. The speedometer is stuck reading past 140mph. It just occured out of clear blue sky. Any ideas of fix?

Take the cluster out but leave plugged in, start the car and wigggle the needle till it comes un stuck. thats what i would try first

Is there a clock spring to become dislodged or broken?
I've never taken the IP apart.

Actually I believe they're "air core"... No spring. You'd have to take the cluster out and you should be able to shake it back to "0:.

2 screws up top(plastic surround)
4 screws in the corners (of the gauge cluster)
and your at the harness (unclips outta the top right corner)

then just pop off the plastic front shield (8-10 clips around the outside)

and you can get the needle itself. just flick it back to where it should be.

when mine did that the speed sensor went. I replaced the sensor and everything went back to normal.

If the VSS goes usually the car will have more issues than a pegged needle...

Do what they said, and see if it's mechanically stuck (also.. if it goes back to 0 w/ the car off, it's not stuck).

If that doesn't help chances are whatever moves it (don't know how an electric one works, TBH) is grounded, giving it full voltage all the time.. look into the circuit and wires, probably a variable resistor in the computer or something that controls how much voltage goes to the gauge, effectively moving the needle. The control side would most likely have a problem.

well, the needle has a stop, and is held in place by that magnetic force, so what happened is that the needle is trying to get back to 0, and it's more force pulling it around clockwise then there is going counterclockwise, to when you remove the bezel, it will zoom back to 0, easy fix

I had the same thing happen when I replaced some brake lines. I read where someone had taken out the dash assembly and manually unstuck the speedometer. I tried it and the speedometer has been working fine. I still don't really know why the needle went all the way up.

This thread is almost 2 years old my friend. The needles go all the way up and then back down when the cluster or battery is reconnected after disconnected from the car.
