Nipples

okay now that i have the attention of all the preverts out there i have a question about my CAI. The one i bought has a little piece of metal tube about 1'2 inch long sticking off the side close to the MAF. I did a search and couldn't find any threads that mention anything about this little nipple, is a hose supposed to be attached to it, what's it for? Any help would be greatly appreciated. thanx

i did the civic intake one... and since it was made to fit a civic it has a lil metal tube you put some sensor in, but the alero doesn't have one i don't believe.

My WAI had two things in the side, one was a hole with rubber gromet for the MAF, the other was the nipple you are referring to.
Heres a line from the instructions I got with my intake.
"Install the blue hose into the PCV hose by the throttle body. (just by pushing the blue hose into the PCV hose)"

Not sure which engine you have but I've got the 2.4.
The PCV bypass was rather easy to spot since it was the only black hose below and to the back of the TB that no longer had anything connected to it. When I get home I can take some pictures of it for you if you need them/want them.

If u have the v6, the vacuum feed line plugs into the intake between the MAF and the throttle body. if you have 2 nips (like most of us haha) the first one is for that line and the second should be plugged. Use tape or silicone if you don't have a cap.

actually the cld air intake i got is one solid piece of metal. I'm pointing to the nipple i'm refering to, it came with a cap on it already. Any ideas what to hook up to it?

It doesn't connect to anything. Leave the plug over it and you'll be alright.

exactly, if you are not replacing the corrugated piece between the MAF and throttle body, it is extra. Leave it capped. Guess it is a universal tube?

In his defense, not many retailers refer to short ram intakes as WAIs, I shopped around and many called the WAI a CAI. We are the only ones that seem to really be picky about the difference.

why isn't it a cold air intake? the tube goes behind my battery and drops down into my wheel well like the others i've seen described as cold air intakes. I had to cut a small corner of the body out with a dremel for it to reach in there, but i get cold air from the front of my car. mmmmmmmmm i like talkin about nipples!!!

sheesh... ok, one "nipple" is for the iat sensor, the other is for the little tube sitting behind the throttle body. if you're facing the engine, it comes "up" from behind the tb, and makes a right angle, then pointing "right". connect a hose from there to the metal "nipple"

You could get one of those little breather filters and clamp that on there.

that little nipple is for a line for nitrous, *a dry nitrous system* :D but yeah thats where your nitrous line runs to......

it is a CAI if it goes down into your fender. That nipple thing is for the vaccuum tubes in civics and other applications. Just leave it capped, or plug it so it doesn't mess up the air intake flow.

Ya, its a cold air intake then because it does go down into my fender, it doesn't just stay under the hood in the engine compartment and suck in warmed engine air. And it only has the one nipple, which by the sounds of it, i should just leave capped. thanx guys. By the way i paid $79? for it on ebay i think, at the beginning of last summer.

i haven't installed it again yet. I took it off at the end of last summer because i had to take my car to gm for a checkup and i didn't want my warranty voided, and winter was coming. But i will be putting it back on in the next couple weeks because i want to have it in for the niagara falls car meet. I'll take some pics for you guys when i get it back in.

Well in that case i'm a dink.

That is about the shortest CAI i've ever seen though, I'm thinkin that is gonna be a damn good intake because of the mix of cold air and short piping.

And DC, yes all of our cars here are fitted with FAI's or Frozen Air Intakes.

it is short because I'm sure it uses the stock ribbed connector from the TB to the MAF. This is just a pipe that goes from the MAF down under the fender. IMO, you might want to get a piece of straight pipe and a couple of couplers and make your own tube connecting the TB and MAF. You'll probably get better flow. Keeping the stock part between TB and MAF will reduce the CAI's effectiveness.
