My 2001 Alero has been a pain in the ass lately and it will not start, it cranks but wont fire up... leading up to the event when ever i tried starting my car a week before it happened it would start fine... then it would take a while to start.. i some times had to push on the pedal to start it. So what I'm thinking what it is, is the fuel pump i checked everyone of my fuses except the relays but im pretty sure its not my fuel pump relay..
I came along this site http://www.carcomplaints.com/Oldsmobile/Alero/2001/engine/turns_over_but_wont_start.shtml
Which from what i read it could be the security system... people said turn the car to "On" for 10 mins and the security light with stop
then turn it off and take key out for 10-20 seconds
then fire it up.. But i have a aftermarket head unit so i don't have the light..
Could i just take out the security system?
Has anyone had a problem like this?
i dont wanna spend 400.00 bucks for a new fuel pump and put it in..

It's not the security system, if it was, the car wouldn't start at all.

Long cranks could be any number of things, including:

fuel filter
fuel pump
battery starting to go
alternator starting to go
bad relay (I doubt this one)I know I'm forgetting something

As for the $400, find out what the problem is, and fix that probelm. The security system has nothing to do with your problem. You can still spend the money for a new pump, if you want to

I really doubted the passlock was the problem just wanted to be sure im really sure its the fuel pump 2nd time it happened to this car.. might just get a aftermarket one.. know of any good ones?

could really be a number of things. check the simple things first like your fuses.
