I was talking to my mech about 2 weeks ago and pointed out the pealing dash to him. It's really starting to get bad, in fact the dash is peeling so much that it's curling up and I can see black under the dash pad

Now this is a $766 part at the dealer (new dash price) but he said I could either get the leather for the dash or get a new dash and he would install it and reglue the old and the new dash too. But the old dash is peeled so much, it might not be fixable. The tan dashes are very hard to find around here.

I stop at a junkyard on the way home and they have 5 1999 Aleros there and 2 of then have the tan interior.

The first one hit a tree, the windshiled all smashed to poop, and the dash was black from all the dust from the yard. But the dash was in pretty good shape, a few dings in the dash. The 2nd one the car was up on a rack, so I climbed up and got in the car. This one didn't look totaled. The dash was in very good shape. I did feel a bit of raised part like mine started to do, but it's getting reglued anyway.

I ordered it and the cost is $275. I don't pay until I pick it up. I probably won't have the cash to install it for about a month or so, but I figured get it now, while I can. The second Alero I looked at had a lot of nice parts on it, if anybody is interseted.

My grey dash is also peeling. The vinyl is in fine condition, so I would like to avoid pulling the dash out. Has anyone attempted to fix this by stretching and reglueing?

OK I didn't get the dash, why, the assholes at the junkyard stiffed me.

They never called me to tell me the part was ready, so I called them, a week after the part was supposed to be ready, and they said it wasn't. At this point I just said OK I don't want it (It was still in the wrecked car!!!)

They said fine and hung up, but I get a nice surprise on my credit card bill, a $291.50 surprise, so I call them up ASAP and the guy gives me attitude and I said that I cancled the order. He siad that he called me and I said he didn't and that I called them. He spouts off my phone number, which wasn't mine, hell not even close, and I said that's not my number, he said it was. I said if you called the right number, I would have the dash right now.

Anyway, he hits me with a 25% restocking fee, and I tell him I'm not apying it becuase it wasn't my fault you got the wrong number. He said I was paying. Instead of going back and forth (I was at work) I called Visa and disputed the charge.

That's where I am right now. I bought a carpet dash cover on ebay for $17, so I'm going to see how that works first. The dash is ruined anyway, velcro strips aren't going to make it worse.

Lesson to be learned here:
1) NEVER tell people at a junkyard your credit card number. And if you have to tell them a phone number, tell them a cell phone number. It's much harder to gain access to personal information through a cell number.
2) Ask for a price on parts before they see any of your cash. In fact, make a point of it to make 2 trips. the first trip with no cash at all, and the second to buy the pieces you need. (I don't know about PA, but in NY, it is illegal to charge more than the quoted price...except if a considerably long amount of time has passed...like over a month. I'm not sure on the specifics of that...)
