Turn signal problems
About one in the morning my turn signals quit working. Fuse C on the drivers side panel is fine. Everyonce in a while last night they would work for a few seconds and quit alltogether.

bad ground
|
hazard button
|
search button works wonders for this
|
i saw the hazard issue, mines different and the haszzard works fine
wheres the turnsignal ground? thats easy to check |
you haven't noticed if you hit your hazard button a couple times the turn signals will work?
|
Quote:
hazard can work fine, its the solder in the button, YOU DO KNOW that the hazard button is also the turnsignal thing? you fail |
Does your horn work?
If not then its the ground to the relay under the hood. |
ok, ill check the horn, yall r saying its not the #22 relay? or the turn signal switch, and where do i get the new hazzard button

Hazard button can be bought anywhere that sells auto parts |
did you try cleaning the turn signal switch
|
Hazard button is like $20 online at GMpartsdirect. Takes maybe 15-30 minutes to replace, and BOOM! Your done.
|
i have the same prob if u press the hazard button half way a good indication is that your button will buzz i dunno why but in a pinch hit the top of your dash it will work or press the button in half way
|
dude listen to nate and matt its the hazard switch I promise
|
yea.. i have the same issue with it working on and off... gotta pull out my hazard and check it.. the signals will work when i love tap the dash when they stop working. But yea.. listen to em
|
Those hazard buttons are defective, they had an issue with cold solder joints, and the little tiny resistors or whatever in there come loose(solder joint cracks barely noticable) which is why when ya push on the switch sometimes your lucky enough to make a connection to get your signals to work, if your lucky enough to notice which one and have very good soldering skills maybe you can fix it and put it back in. The signals circuit goes right through that hazard switches circuit board so it affects the signals, sometimes they work and sometimes they click like crazy etc....It was a recall/safety issue around 2001. The dealer should do it for ya at no cost.

Mine just started acting up last night for the first time.
Used the SEARCH BUTTON and it works great. I didn't even have to start a new thread. $18.58 on eBay, brand new, shipped right to my door. ACDelco part number 10359040 |
You get a GOLD star Ken.
|
Mine started doing this too but is resolved by a simple light nudge up with a finger to the hazard button. Once it gets worse I'll replace the hazard button. Thanks for the info!
|
like was probably said you may have to pull your multifunction switch and clean it...Mine worked fine for about a week and then it started acting up again...cleaned multifunction switch and all is good

THIS! The hazard switch is part of the turn signal circuitry. IF you disconnect the hazard button, you have no blinkers. Go online, look for Alero hazard switch and you'll be okay. Trust us on this. |

Someone skimmed a little bit :p Redog was talking about ordering it, he was just making a point of the fact that he found his info using the search button because so many people have been reposting questions of the same exact thing within weeks of the question being answered, this thread is from 2009...My add on at the end while without reading everything was stating the fact that if the hazard button doesn't fix it, then your multi-function switch contacts are either dirty or ruined (usually just dirty) |
You guys are all wrong. I don't know why no one has mentioned this commonly overlooked maintenance...

OMG, back to the store :panic:  |
How do i take the hazard switch out 2000 alero. I know its a few screws but does anyone know of a video or directions. Mine needs to be replaced. Thanks
|
Sadly there is no how to on this, as I need to change mine as well. I have a brand new one ready to go in
I was talking to another memebr on here VIA facebook and he said there are no bolts or screws holding it in, but you have to remove the cluster to gain access. Does anybody have a how to? |
I believe that there is one bolt holding it in if my memory serves me right. I pulled on at a salvage yard years ago to see how hard it was to get out.
|
|
How do you not know how to change that ken?? Lmao
|
I believe on my 03 there were 3 screws...one on each side on the bottom and one up top...they could have changed

Opened it up, didn't see any bolts, plus I cannot pull out my center vents because of the dash cap  |
Alright figured out dont have to take dash off just take the vent off easy access. Two clips on the bottom are a pain but it wasnt too hard.
