CD and Head Unit Question
I was told by someone that does audio installs that if i purchased a JVC cd player($140) that I would have to pay $40-60 bucks just for special wires also. He told me that Alero's have different and special wires that are more expensive. Is this true at all?

^^FAQ's mothereffer, do you read them??
Hahaha, seriously though the search button is your friend. |
dude, dont just say "search" and not tell him... it's an honest mistake
yeah, you need something called a "chime module" or you an use a relocate harness, and keep your existing HU in the trunk, if you do not do either, you will not have chimes.... |
if can remember to take your keys out put gas in the car and close your door you don't really need it i dont
|
Is this the name of the part GMRC- 02
|
so the only thing it does is stop the chiming?
|
Yes, but those chimes are also used to help you reset your oil life and tire pressure monitor. Also, to change your automatic door locks, like all unlock on key off, of just drivers unlock on key off, and stuff like that. The chime goes off a number of times, which corresponds with a setting. All in all, you should get the module to keep your chime.
|
as for the tire pres and oil life, there are lights for those. push the button til the one you want blinks, hold down the button, the light goes out. simple, screw the chimes.
all the chimes are really for is your keys, low gas, lights, and close the damn door. there are lights on for all of them except the keys, but those are obvious. just get the cheap harness and lose the chimes. |
I also heard that the head unit itself that goes with the cd players for Alero's are more expensive then normally. Is this true also?
|
Any head unit will fit, you just need to MAKE it fit.
There is a plastic "case" which our HUs sit in. Cut it, rip it, break it- just clear the path. Theres also a metal strap back there, I cut mine out. Ive heard the later Aleros also do not have a switched 12V wire in the stock harness. Just buy the module. They run about $60 as stated, thats at dealer cost even. |
ryans right. my 2002 doesn't have switched 12v. i had to buy the $60 module for the car. makes hooking up the deck really easy. but what sucks is if you blow the module like i did. it now doesn't have 12v switched.

99s dont need any of that at all, just normal wire harness 19.99

I have a 200 and its the same way. If you are planning on buying a new radio pm me for a quote. If you buy the radio and harness through me I will solder it all up for you. All you will have to do is slap it in there. I got fit kits available also. |
