Ok so today somethin happened and now when i go in reverse there is anwierd crunching/scratching noise.. Does anyone know what this could be

heineck 07-15-2011 10:01 PM

is ur ebrake engaged?

Fuzzyspudkiss 07-15-2011 10:28 PM

Did you happen to go down any gravel roads or spin out on a gravel parking lot or something related to that?

JLw7123 07-15-2011 11:20 PM

x2 on the Ebrake.

sleepyalero 07-15-2011 11:47 PM

If it only happens when he puts it in reverse i think it would be more then just an ebrake.

does it reverse smoothly, or does it shake or feel rough when reversing? Did it just start doing it suddenly, or did you do something and it started? DETAILS

Run over your neighbor's cat?

MMGT1 07-16-2011 03:55 AM

Are you describing an internal noise or is it just a blown trans/torque mount?

Jboyjbb 07-16-2011 02:04 PM

Well i did go down a gravel road and spin the tires a lil bit and its a lil rough in reverse but not too bad

AlbinoMonkeyRat 07-16-2011 05:12 PM

check your front brakes...did you wear them out to the point where they're just metal and the metal part of the pad is wedged between the rotor and the caliper, but not in the clips?

Fuzzyspudkiss 07-19-2011 08:15 PM

The reason I asked about the gravel road is because I drive down gravel roads a lot and one time my car started making a terrible grinding sound that appeared to be coming from the rear drivers side brake but only in reverse, it was quite in forward. I took off the tire and I found a quarter sized rock that had become lodged between the brake and some sort of shielding on the inside of the brake. for some reason it only made a sound in reverse.

I just thought I would tell you something that you could check out yourself without spending money on a mechanic first.

when you say "go in reverse" do you mean as you put it in reverse or move in reverse?

Jboyjbb 07-19-2011 10:49 PM

Move in reverse

lonnie 07-19-2011 11:48 PM

Its a midget caught between the brake pad and the rotor...see this all the time...only happens when they are wearing iron shorts.

Redog 07-20-2011 12:40 AM

I heard of the midget thng before but never the iron shorts part :D

after more info has been provided, yes I concur with everybody that said possible gravel inside the rear wheels where the parking brakes are. Stop trying to be cool by doing awesome wheel spins on gravel. A guy on a Huffy can do that too :D
