Hey guys, I bought my friend's infinity Kappa 10.1 10 inch sub off of him for 100 bux, they retail for 250 brand new and this one is still in box and never been wired to an amp...the wattage rating for this sub is 100-400 watts RMS and 1200 watts Max, I found a cheap MA audio amp on e-bay for 170, 195 with shipping that puts out 600 Watts RMS at 4 ohms, the same as the sub, do you think this would be overkill for the sub or would it sound fine and shoud I just set the amp's power level a little lower?

I say do what you said. You shouldn't really get much distortion from the amp running it at 67% like that. Unless you want to look for a 500 watt amp from a different manufacturer that might perform better or has more features (didn't look to see what the amp you mentioned does) for the same amount of money. Just a thought. But you're on the right track...avoid underpowering the sub.

IF its an MA audio amp, most likely its rated at 14.4 or more volts.. i wouldnt hesitate to run the sub offa that amp, should be ok, just be carefull and make sure that you dont blow it with too much boost.. and i would recomend using it in a sealed box, as sealed has the the best power handeling propertys.

def runned a sealed box.
As far as power, it may be very easy to blow that, That is a killer amp.
Blowing is definately possible. Keep the gain low. Youll know the distortion when you hear it.

Right.... so with a amp that prolly puts out 600watts rms at 14+volts... runing in a car the amp should be a good match for that sub im a sealed box
