LIMG Leak
A mechanic informed me of the bad news today but he "says" most of the leaks he's repaired (@40) don't leak coolant into the crankcase. True or false?
Thanks

mine did, with NO external leak. mine was so bad i poured the entire rad into the crank in like 10 minutes.... i did it it was easy. if you have watery oil, before you put it back together, clean the lifters, or the same thing will happen to you as to me, it held my valves open enough to simulate no compression.

How many miles are on the car?
Exactly what does (@40) mean? I'm sure it's some sort of typo.

i'm pretty sure he means @ = approximate.
to clarify:
@ = AT.
~ = approximate
from a symbolic standpoint.

He's repaired 40 lower intake manifold leaks and wants $800 to perform the deed. He says Dex-cool causes the problem to begin with. The car has 113k

I was thinking that the mechanic found 40 leaks in your intake manifold gasket.

It's not necessarily the fault of the dex-cool.. It's the combination of the type of plastic in the gaskets with the organic acids in the dex-cool.

Isn't dex-cool reformulated now? Which makes it better than the original? Anyway, He wants to use the plastic type gaskets and change over to green coolant. I don't think plastic gaskets are the best replacement from what I've read on this forum.
It's a very slight leak at this point but a leak none the less. I'm going to keep an eye on it for now cause I can't swing the $800 to have it repaired.

Just posted in another thread on the same topic....

Use that, not the plastic ones.

3400 Limg
If you drive to Jeff City I would do it for $250 if you provided the parts. I've done over 100 of these now.
