Alero Wet carpets, sloshing water. Fixed !

I've had this 01 Alero for 18 months and 5,000 miles (70k).

Early on, I found that the carpet(s) were 'soaked' periodically .

Once, after a heavy snowstorm, I could hear the water 'sloshing' below the passenger floorboards. The carpets were NOT wet.

This always occurred while NOT driving. The Alero was parked.

Other times, the driver and passenger side carpets were soaked. Sometimes the water would migrate to the rear carpet.

After many internet searches and the possible solutions, I felt I was at an end-point.

A couple of weeks ago, I noticed that the windshield gasket had pulled away from the lower portion of the glass at two locations. This left a gap between the top of the gasket and the lower edge of the glass.

Looking the situation over, I saw that there was a channel below this 'gap' that looked as though it may allow the water to migrate to another, unseen area.

I waited for a somewhat warm day and refitted the gasket onto the windshield.

After several rains and one very heavy thunderstorm, I am happy to report that the problem seems to have been repaired.

My Airbag SRS module went into 'fault' mode toward the end of this process. I pulled the module (under passenger seat) and it was obvious that moisture was a problem. Water was 'puddled' under the module and the module was quite corroded.

This is what lead me to attempt to finalize the moisture problem.

Hopefully others will be saved some aggravation.
