For those who have had them replaced or had problems with them. How many miles did you have on your car then? How much did it cost and did you do the work or a shop?

Edit - searched and found a lot of good info, but just wondering about how many miles people have on when they have problems with it.

i have a friend with a GA with the 3400 and she has around 70k and the gaskets have been replaced twice. now the 2nd set is just starting to leak. i imagine in the next 15k to 20k she will be on set 3.

well, whoever is ficking it, isnt using the right gasket or something. GM fixed the gasket and it should greatly reduce the chances of it happening ever again. pretty sure mine was leaking a bit when i bought it. replaced close to 60k. im at 108k now with no problems.

they probably using the felpro gaskets.

but i have headr of people still having issues after the new GM gaskets are installed. i think a lot has to do with the install job and the driver and driving conditions.

around 50k, and now at 133k it is being replaced as we speak at the dealership. It is 750 bucks to be put in. 150 or so for the parts, 500 or so for the labor. SUCKS ASS...............

well, didn't know the signs to look for on my first alero, so i ended up just replacing the whole engine myself at about 80,000. On the new alero, as soon as I got it back from Jersey, I took it to Mike (sc/alero) at Luby Chevrolet and he got it covered for me under warranty....

Why does it do this? Also does the 4cyl have this problem? Does it hurt or affect anything else that would also need to be replaced? Also I was looking at a page that had pictures earlier about it and didnt save it like dumb me, but does anyone have that page?
