I have a new bumper to put on the ho, and was looking to get it painted to match my car. I took it into Maaco (separate from car) and they quoted me $175. Is this a good deal?

The guy also suggested I think about blending the new paint in with the rest of car. He thinks that the color painted to factory spec will look different than my possibly faded current paint job on the rest of the car, just a little. Any suggestions on this?

I got quoted $300 to paint both side skirts and front and rear bumpers plus installation so NO, i wouldn't say this is a good deal. Maybe shop around and see if you can get a better deal. If the bumper is already primer, it shouldn't take much to paint it. Thas my $.02

Well $175 does sound high for just painting a front bumper, espesialy if it is already primed. Although it depend on the bumper and whats on it, if its a factory style bumper with just the protective E-coat on it then the body shop will have to remove that then prep the plastic, prime it, block it, paint and clear coat it.

Also if they are going to blend into the hood and fenders (which if they take their time, mix the paint right, and do a spray out card to check the color and tweek it to get it as close as possible that might not be nessacary) then that will cost a dicent amount of money just because they have to scuff the entire hood and both fenders, blend the paint out into both to make color change unnoticable, then clear coat the entier hood and both fenders.

My advice is shop around a little and if you can find a shop who you are confident enough that they will be able to match the color of your car, then you could probably get away with not blending, even though blending will make the job look dang near perfect match.

If you decide to go with just painting the bumper and not blending try to go to a body shop which has their one paint mixing system and banks that way they will be able to work with the paint to make it match instead of haveing to go somewere else to have it mixed.

Well its factory painted white, from another member here. That price was to paint it separately, no blending involved. I will have to shop around some more I guess.

I'd look at a local body shop, not a Maaco type place. You'll get better work, and more often than not a better deal.

I work for a Maaco in Iowa. We're actually ranked in the top 10 nationwide. And $175 to paint a bumper is very high. I would have said $100 tops. But it also depends on the paint they're using too. Some paints require more colors and mixing in turn costing more money. I'd say shop around just like everyone else. And just for the record, there are a lot of Maaco shops out there that are poop, but there are also some that do just as good if not a better job than some known body shops. My boss built a car that competed with Chip Foose in a competition and won. So, don't judge every Maaco because some don't know what the hell they're doing.

I have never heard of Maaco so I don't know much about the quality of work that they do and what not, but i agree that some places just don't know what they are doing, you just gotta check some out and talk to some ppl.
