Very good question!!

I know all European cars have it, required by law since januari 1st 1998.
Just another difference then to the US version?

But if so, what's the problem the "you guys" cars have with the security light coming on? And the car not starting?

I assumed it was the same system.

Help, because i haven't had this problem yet but have been thinking about it.

Same with the secondary remote, possibly having another code so it may not be synchronised to your car anymore after replacing the batteries.

I know Renault has had huge problems with that.

You always had to synchronized the remote after replacing the battery.

old thread i know, but I can now join the club.

Last december on holliday in France it happened to me to, we were leisurely cruising along the western coast (with gf and dog), we stopped a few times, enjoyed the scenery and drove on until... no response from the remote and of course the two minutes had passed.
The sun was beautifully setting in the sea and the sparekey about a thousend kilometers away and of course it got cold.

Ended up calling a towtruck that towed us to a workshop, where the gasoline station attached to it was still open so i got a new battery and went thru the reset mode with succes.

All in all the funniest was me being worried about the dog in my car while sitting next to a reckless French driver towing my car. When we stopped first thing i did was check how the dog was doing and she was sound asleep, when i opened the door she kind a looked "oh you here too?"
