I am ready to buy my finshing up stuff for the body of my car. So to start this off I bought the grand am mirrors, razzi wing, have a molded AAS kit and Z3 fenders. I am thinking the Z3s are a bit much on the aleros... input on this is welcome. I was wondering about the alero and olds chrome lettering on the back of the car, moldings on the side doors, 3rd break light and key hole for trunk, should I keep the olds and alero lettering or leave it off and the rest should I cover with fiberglass? I was also wondering if I should go ahead and make custom tails and have a set of projection head lights made for the car? Anyone have any ideas on the little finishing touches I can add to make this ride stand out from other AAS kitted Aleros?

the olds and alero lettering are just glued on there...they will pull right off along with the mouldings on the sides. yes do the tails...good luck, and the z3 fenders aren't too much

oh I know they are glued on, everything is off the car now. I was wondering if it would look better with or without the lettering. I was also looking at other chrome lettering and changing it up a bit.

Different styles and fonts right now. I wanted to keep the alero the same way but maybe put 3.4L turbo after it or custom or something along those lines. the car will have a turbo in it maybe even twin if I can have it made with the money I have.

well yah that would just be dumb if I didnt have it in the car. I would look like the honda civic drivers with V8 on the back. Been working 80 hour weeks to save up for a nice turbo setup. I want to upgrade a lot of my engine parts too. The guy I am talking to about making the turbo said I should see about 300HP after the turbo and some internal work. I would like to see the car up to around 350 - 400 but that is going to take lost of 80 hour work weeks lol. I have no life .

a single turbo would fit nicely. Twin turbo MIGHT fit, but it would look nasty under there. If you actually do it, keep us posted!
As for all the looks stuff:
-projectors have been made, but not produced. From what I understand, it's very do-able for a FYI project, but there is no kit for that.
-badges/moldings: cruise around the showcase section (or even cardomain) for cars that have removed them. I personally think our cars look much cleaner without all the badges. (If you get a 3rd brake light overlay that says "Alero" ditch the alero badges, or put them somewhere else.)
-tail lights: I like the look of our stock tails tinted, but if you do custom work, I'm sure it could look good. (I think it was oldsmopimp who put '58 Olds tails in place of the Alero outers, and shaved off the inners...looks hot. a project like that would be cool, just don't copy. )

I was thinking of totaly removing the 3rd break light and covering over the gap with fiberglass. I like the alero tail style I just want something to halp my car stand out. I was looking at clearing them but from looking on here it is very hard to do it right and have it look good and the LED tails look weird. I have seen a few pics of people that have blacked areas out and that looks ok but still not a great mod. I think maybe looking at other tails from a different car and working them into the car would be the best thing I could do looks wise. Guess its time to PS some tails

I was thinking for the twin if I relocated the battery to the trunk it might look ok. There is room to work under there just have to move things around a bit.

sounds like a good plan so far. is it a daily driven car, or weekends/summer driven? if it's a summer car, you can go even further and remove the washer bottle for a bit more room.

hahah funny thing is the washer bottle has a crack in it and is no good anyway. No its not a daily driver. For most of the time this car will be covered and left to sit. Might be a weekend thing to bring it out for a bit but thats it. When the turbo or turbos are installed I will be burning gas faster then I can put it in the car. Even my 1.2L Rotory I have hurts the books here in Ontario and I am looking to give it up for a civic maybe even a used hybrid...

Hmm, I personally would say keep the emblems, I like the look of them, go for the Z3 fenders they're pretty simple and so aren't too much activity for the car...I like the tails stock, but you're trying to make it different so, I guess I'd go tint--looks good with black cars. That's just my two cents

I will paint the car as it is right now with the tails and just see how it looks. May look really nice and then again it may not hard to tell at this point. I do like the Alero on the back of the trunk but I never did like the olds. Have to see what works. Good thing about the letters is they can be tacked on just to see if it looks good and removed if they look like crap.

ok is it just me or do i keep seeing "just fiberglass over the hole""
dude you are absoulty clueless about body work, ya just don`t cover a hole like that metal has to be shaped and welded in it`s place
and ya don`t "shave" door moldings off or emblems you REMOVE them
oh and the z3 inserts ya to much and way to import
so in closing before you post ya might want to know what your talking about first ok??

Whoa, I can't argue with you on the bodywork stuff, 'cause I'll admit I don't know poop about 'glassing etc. but it's pretty common knowledge that removing emblems is referred to as "shaving" (albiet layman's terminology). The fenders are a matter of personal opinion, you stated yours--no problem there--but there's no need to discourage the guy...how's he supposed to learn besides trial-and-error if he is wrong?

ok if i told my boss "hey iam goin to shave off the body side moldings" he would laugh his ass off
we all have our own term, but shaving and just like frenching is a metal fabrication term
and fiberglass is not the cure all answer sorry that product only works good on certain applications, not for every inch of body work filled
learning is one thing but to make a thread and post when i read it and he makes no sense and is clueless about what he wants done ,
ya iam going to respond my way and tell him like it is
so here is my advice save your money and let some one do the work for ya, or pay me to do it

^ i think they refer to it as shaving because it's like shaving your face: taking the little crap off so it's smoother.
