Wider Tires

Right now I have 225/40-18's on 7.5" wide wheels, I'd like to put on some 255/35-18's. Will the 255's fit on the 7.5" wheels? They're are +42 offset but I could always use spacers to get a little extra room if needed. I'm more concerned about the wheel not being wide enough.

No you need at least an 8.5 inch wide rim to put a 255 on.

Rim range for that tire is 8.5 to 10 inches.

The widest tire you can get on a 7.5 rim is 245

I don't know if you can even get a tire that wide on an Alero anyway

I know that the 235/45R17 Continental ContiExtremeContact that i have has a minimum wheel width of 7.5", which is what i have. I believe it does vary by manufacturer of tire too.

my fronts are 255 40r18 on a 18x7.5 rim. so yes it can be done. but check with the tire specs. i know michelin tires are a little narrower compared to some others.

Thanks for the input. I'll check with the tire companies also to see what they have to say. I just don't want to go and buy the 255's and then find out that they actually don't fit on the rim.
