your looking at upwards of 5 or 6 thousand dollars when you are done and there is no gaurantee it will run right. Everyone including me is going to tell you it isn't worth it and you should just turbo or SC your 3400.

well the fact is, u could swap in a 3800 SC'd engine from a GTP or spend the money you would on that and turbo your 3400 and make it twice as fast.

To original poster. Ignore everyone else. This is your vehicle. Do what YOU want to it and dont let anyone else influence you. Engine swaps arent for practicality or rationality. Its the actual feat of doing it. Sure you can mod the current engine and get more out of it but who cares. A modded alero with a 3400 is just like everyother alero with a 3400 on here. I give props to ANYONE who wants to try to do anything unique to there car whether it be a normal 3800 swap, LS1 swap, 454 swap whatever. Its all about what YOU want to do to YOUR ride to make it as unique as possible.

you would be better off paying 5-6k getting a custom body kit for the car you were going to take the engine out of and make it look like an alero. :P

actually.. if you think about it.. it really cant be that hard.. especially if theres a ford ranger splash running around town with a cobra 5.0 H.O. in it. i mean come on.. the only difficulty would be wiring, engine and tranny mounts, entire new custom carputer.. and so on and so on, but the point is is that it can be done, and done right.. and why wouldnt it run correctly? seriously why wouldnt it.. if you take another 3400 and put it into an alero, itll run right? why wouldnt a 3800? arent they basically the same block? the only troubles that i see in swapping a 3800 in for the 3400 are the same troubles you would have doing any similar engine swap.. so if im totally being an ass and totally being stupid.. someone explain to me what i have wrong

Nope, the 3400 and 3800 have barely anything in common with each other, starting with that the 3400 is a 60°V6 and a 3800 is a 90°V6

I would say if you are serious there is a company that makes a 4.2 stroker kit for the 3800 Series II for jusr over 2,000 dollars. If you really wanted to set yourself apart I would do a NA 3800 with no supercharger and if you still dont like it drop another 3,000 and get a turbo setup and get another 80HP.

I completely agree with the above post. Also with the 3800 you will get a different transmission. I believe it will either be the 4t60E or the 4T65E. Either one would be to your advantage. Both transmissions have a higher hp and torque rating than the 4T45E under the 3400. the biggest problem you will likely run into is getting halfshafts. But from what i hear it can be done with mating your current 3400 shafts to those from the 3800. Another thing is you WILL need the computer from the 3800 equipped vehicle. As mentioned it IS different. But its not all that hard to do. There are easily more parts for the 3800 anyway. If i still had my alero thats what it would have in it now.
