problems

So i was driving to work today got on the interstate and my car starts to shimmy at about 65 mph. is this a common problem with aleros ?
What do you guys think the issue is ? I was leaking some power sterring fluid once it got to like -20 degrees here in ohio. I hope this doesnt cost 1000 dollars

shimmy around 65mphs = wheels needs to be rebalanced. and maybe loose lugnuts on wheels (but not likely) .. you just need to get the wheels balanced. maybe a weight fell off or moved since you have aftermarket wheels and they most likely used the "stick-on" wheel weights.

Thats your first problem right there...no wonder its vibrating at 65...I'm shocked its not vibrating sitting still going to wal-mart...seriously, find a tire store and have them rotate and balance...it may cost a few dollars more, but at least you know you're cars not going to fall apart because somebdoy forgot to tighten a lug.

im having this same exact problem at about the 65mph mark too. did you get it fixed with a balance? my sister said it could be my brakes, they arent what they use to be but still in good condition.

Yeh at all our car club meetings (A pontiac classic car club) my dad hosts a 'tech session.' the other week he did one on balancing tires... showing why its worth the money to get a proper job; and exactly all the equipment and work involved, blah blah..

Walmart wont do that for you. get it done right.

Agreed. Remember the walmart philosophy... "why buy something good when you can buy 5 cheap things for the same price". Apply that to your car "why do the job right the first time when we can do a shitty job and make em come back 5x as often"

Are they 20" rims? could that be your problem.

Mine is starting to do this at 65 but it's very slight and goes away at 70, but I know what the problem is, I knocked off one of those stick on wheel weights, and it only happened after I swapped the front wheels after racing. Stockers were fine.

It's cool, car's getting inspected on Monday, gotta pull the wheels off the car for inspection in PA anyway

leaking steering fluid? could be any number of things...
-just a hose *more cost in labor*
-pump might have a leak *about $250 parts and labor to replace
-rack and pinion could have a crack if you had some nasty bottom-outs. *about 800 parts and labor

I've had all those issues this year...main reason I'm broke right now.

I agree with Wal Mart. Love the prices hate the work. I made the mistake one time of getting their "lifetime" rotate and balance. Soon as I drove the car away it vibrated worse than before. Took it to a small garage and sure enough, 3 out of the 4 wheels were not balanced properly!!!! Sad thing was I watched the pud put the tires on the machine. Even sadder thing is, a week later the vibration came back. I've had the bearings and axles done, no one can seem to tell me what it is except they think a rim might have a slight bend in it....I'll still go to Wal Mart to buy my oil and filter, but I'd change it in the snow myself before paying them again to do it.
