I had a squeaking noise while my car was in motion, it went away or diminished when the brakes were pressed. Took it to GM for a diagnosis and they told me
in the reciept/write up of the problem
"FRT PAD SLIDE CLIPS RUBBING ON EDGE OF ROTORS-CAUSING SQUEAKING"
They wanted $80 CDN for it to be fixed which I declined and then took it to another shop and they wanted $200 CDN. F- That. Can anyone recommend something I can do myself or a friend more technically proficient in these matters can do to remedy the problem???

You need to replace your pads before they wear down and start to tear the rotors up.

Now I know what that noise is!

I have shop time a week from tommorow and the pads and rotors are just sitting in my trunk waiting to go on.

Well with GM replacements anything is possible. I just had my front pads put on by Car-X which come with a lifetime warranty minus $40 for labor. Idk if the pads were replaced before I bought my car, which it had 29,000 miles on it then, and now it has about 45,000 in less than a year (sucks bein 225 miles from home for college and nothing to do here on campus) so how many miles you have on your car? and how many have you put on since the pads were replaced?

Yes, thats normal for GM pads and most drivers. I had 16k on my 03 when they were bad.
