LOL same thing happened to me... except I had driven about 300 miles. All my driving is city, stop and GO... yeah. Ive gotten 245 for a 1/2 tank once though, driving down state and back around 70mph.

my car pretty much dumps fuel at idle. fuel trim is usually right around -3.5 which is the way it has to be or it won't run at all.

Average I get about the same as you... but was able to get around 30mpg when I did plain highway driving at normal speeds like 65ish. Depends on how you drive really, and the maintenence on the car (fuel injectors, air filter etc)

This last fill up I got 289 to the tank. My highest has been 350 miles to the tank... all highway at 65 mph. I do a lot of city driving so that kills my mileage.

idk if someone said this, cause i didnt read the rest, but jackal you said 14 gallons???? im pretty sure my car has a 12 gallon tank. cause when i let the needle go until the light comes on, i fill up and get around 11.5 gallons. so its def a 12 gallon gas tank. My step dads jet ski has a bigger gas tank than my car....

i get around 250 in the city, so 250/12 is about 21 mpg.
highway....310/12 is 26 mpg.
I dont even drive the car that hard, or go too fast on the highway and i only get 26 mpg.

Your light doesn't come on when your tank is empty. There are always a few gallons left behind for reserves. I thought the Alero had like a 15.3 or 15.9 gallon gas tank...somebody with an owners manual needs to check this one out. I have a 17.3 now, but the light comes on and it never takes more than 13 to fill it.

i knew there was some left, but i didnt know there was a few gallons? yea if nobody looks in the owners manual by the time i get home then i will just do it. I just thought, 12 gallons made sense by the miles i get from a tank....

Well I've put more than 12 gallons in the alero before, so its doubtful that its 12. I know the prius has one of the smallest tanks at 10 gallons, but then again, it gets 60 mpg, so it doesn't need to be real big.

i was just reading through the specs. in the owners manual the other day to find coolant capacity, i can tell you with relative certainty that it's 14.1 gallons for gas

I stand corrected...14.6 gallons as per this website
http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/noframes/19644.shtml
Now I don't think the website is entirely accurate b/c it says my new car gets 23/31, but I'm getting closer to 29/39..so who knows. But it was right on with the new fuel tank size.

The difference is the 23/31 is MPG (using US gallons). The 29/39 that you're talking about is Imperial Gallons (British gallons).
British Gallons are about 0.5L bigger than US gallons, so about 20% ish.
