Rattling next to engine...

I've recently been noticing a rattling come from under my hood. The other day I looked underneath, only to hear a annoying rattling coming from what appears to be the compressor area next to the engine block. Leaving the engine running, I thought to turn fan on low (1) without the a/c on. As soon as that kicked on, the rattling stopped. Any thoughts other than leaving my fan on all the time , to get that annoying rattling to stop?

You probably need a new clutch on your A/C compressor to get the problem to stop. It doesn't really hurt anything, it's just kinda annoying to hear that sound.

alerored04 is an unknown quantity at this point
i have the same thing happening, it gets worse, the ac still works but the noise is horrendous, i hate it so much i have to put the car in neutral at stop lights. i looked into a new ac clutch but guess what, gm doesnt sell just the clutch, gotta but the whole compressor at $290 plus an ac charge after you fix it. i wish i had the money cause im about ready to pull the ac and throw a pulley and belt on there to make that damn noise stop.

the A/C clutch is usually in stock or readily available at many parts stores. It does require some specialty tools to replace though.
