Tire Question
Hey folks,
I've got a set of Eagle RS-A 225/16R50 tires riding on stock 16" alloys. They are basically racing slicks at this point so I want to replace them. I can get the exact same tires at Canadian Tires for about $600 installed. I went to my mechanic and he can sell me a set of (near new) 225/16R60 for about $150. Now I really like the low profile look of my current tires, for 16s they sit really well. Is there going to be a noticeable difference if I go for the R60s? How much of a difference should I expect in MM?

The 60 series tire will be much taller than the 50 series tire you currently have, and will make your speedometer read slower than you're actually traveling. Stick with your current size.

Yes. Spilner is accurate on your question.
Remember that series is another way of saying aspect ratio. Meaning that 50 series is 50 percent the width.
Personally I like the look of lower profile tires, but the price sure does reach out and give ya that cool, non-"burning a hole in your pocket" feeling

I have 3 eagle RS-A 225/50/R17s I want to sell... They're awful and they just came included on the car... only have 12,000kms on em. They should be off my car by the end of the week.

that they are...... typically last for 40,000-60,000kms and winter traction is shit on em

They're not really that bad, read the reviews on the tirerack site. It's a *decent* all season tire with a good speed rating. They are the tires that come standard on the cop cars too. There are plenty of tires that do things better, but the RS-A is in the middle with a longer tread life. My Continentals are fairly worn out in the front after 20,000 miles, but they offer fairly decent performance (especially considering how they go through the snow.)

I dunno man... every tire shop I talk to here (except the Goodyear dealer) complains about the durability, km ratings, and winter performance. There's no km warranty on them, and the goodyear dealer tells me they're good for about 40,000-60,000kms for average life (or 25,000-40,000 miles). They all tell me in the winter it's like driving on a skating rink. I know I've got those tires on my car, hit one pot hole and it destroyed the sidewall on the rear passenger side.

So what tires are we talking about that aren't that great? The Goodyears? I was planning on just getting a set of Uniroyals for about $600

lol i was talking bout the goodyear eagle RS-A's
i'm replacing em with a set of BF-Goodrich from Costco as soon as they arrive... think they're $700 for a set of 4, V-Rated, but they're 215s instead of 205s

Stay away from the RS-As please. Go with Michelin, Pirellis, BF Goodrich, etc but please stay away from Good-for-a-years.

Yup, my BFGoodrich's are in today. Throwing em on as soon as I get off work. By the end of the night I'll have 3 RS-A's for sale. Well 4 if you want one with a hole in the sidewall...

Ain't nothing the matter with goodyear tires. I have 102k on my back tires and just replaced the front about 5k ago.

Every manufacturer has a tire like the RS-A. (the Michelin MXV4 comes to mind). However as for goodyears in general, I *LOVE* my Eagle F1 GS-D3s, excellent 3-season performance as long as it doesn't get too cold on the road and I've had them about 4 years. I also have a set of Eagle F1 Supercar, but haven't had them long enough. I'm thinking about putting some of the new F1 all-seasons on the Alero if I don't get a new set of ContiExtremeContacts.

Now we are talking about a strict summer tire. Their all season tires suck from my experience and from my friend's experience.
Mind you I have two sets of tires. Summers and Winters.

In winter weather they are MISERABLE!!! i enjoyed them everyother tiem of the year, relativiely quite they lasted a while, nice grip, but HORRIBLE in winter i slid liek crazy when i had them. They are also in my opinion over priced. just my .02 cents
