13" brake upgrade

I know it for an F-body but could it also work on an Alero?

There was a Corvette brake upgrade over on GAGT a few years ago.

Corvette Calipers: chioce of power coated red, or reg silver
Camaro pad holder: bolts right up to the stock N body location
Impala (00-05) x drilled and slotted rotors: same bolt pattern

The really nice thing about that set-up is that the Grand Prix 5 star wheel is 16" and will clear this set up

Here's the set up and pics:

1) Order these parts:
- 98-02 fbody caliper brackets (front) (P/N: 18026163) $61/each
- 97-04 Corvette calipers
---grey calipers: (P/N: 12530682)(P/N: 12530683)$100/each
---red (zo6) calipers: (P/N: 88895128)(P/N: 88895129) $96/each
- 98-02 fbody brake pads (front)
- 00-05 Impala rotors (front)
- 97-02 corvette anti-rattle clip
* all part numbers are GM numbers.
** the calipers are available at auto part stores for less, but are not GM original parts.



2) Start off by removing the wheel. Make sure you remember to use a jack stand not just a jack.



3) Next you remove the top caliper bolt. You use a 13mm crescent wrench for the bolt, and a 16mm crescent for the guide pin. You then flp the caliper back to remove the brake pads.



4) You then remove the brake line bolt from the back of the caliper. It uses a 13mm bolt as well. You might need to put the top bolt back into the caliper and hold it in place while you loosen the banjo bolt (brake line bolt).

5) Next you remove the lower caliper bolt using a 13mm crescent and 16mm crescent for the retainer. You can now take the entire caliper off.

6) You can now remove the guidepins and boots and slide them into the new calipers.

7) You can now remove the caliper bracket. For this you use a 16mm crescent or socket wrench. theres two bolts, one on top and one on bottom. Now the caliper bracket and rotor come off.

8) You now install the new rotor and caliper bracket. Make sure to use threadloc on the threads, and reinstall with a torque of 85 lbs.

9) Check the dust shield to amke sure it is not touching the rotor. Mine was ( i discovered after 100 miles of annoying scrapeing). If it is touching then use a flathead and move it about 1/2 inch away from the rotor.

10) Now you can bolt the brake line up to the new caliper, (tightening to a torque of 40 lbs) and bolt the bottom part of the caliper on using new bolts. The bolts that come with GM corvette calipers are 15mm bolts. 13 mm bolts also come with the camaro brackets (knuckles). Tighten the caliper bolts to a torque of 25lbs (verify all torque settings in a hayes manual).

11) Now you can put the pad retainers in place, and install the brake pads. You can then flip the caliper up and bolt it in place. The caliper bolts torque down to 23 lbs.

12) Make sure to bleed each side after it is done. Once the job is done, make sure that the brake fluid reservoir is filled to its line.

13) Now reinstall the wheel, torque them to 100 lbs. and lower the car back down.

Impala rotors aren't 13". he was asking 13" rotors. We all know the calipers will work, but will the caliper bracket on the Camaro will work w/ 13" rotors is the question hes asking.

exactly, and I have 18" wheels so clearance shouldn't be a problem

I guess no one tried 13" yet, but we know 12" rotors fits. So i guess to find out.. gotta spend some money and try. If not, u can find some vette guys to buy the rotors, if it don't work.

yes ken already answered w/the post above, camaro/firebird caliper brackets, w/ vette or camaro calipers, just need impala rotors for the 5x115 bolt battern, cuz vetts, camaros have 5x114.3mm bolt pattern.

still need to mix and match parts.

Ok, seeing as I was the first one to do this swap....

If you want to fit the 325mm rotor (12.8") you use ALL the same parts except you source C5 rotors instead of the 12" rotors.

You need to use this bracket as well to space the caliper out correctly..

On a side note, I'm going to see about a 14" brake upgrade using a C6 Z06 rotor and a CTS-V Brembo caliper. As well as using the 13" with the C5 bracket and pads instead of the F-Body ones.

'vettes and camaros have a 5x120.67 bolt pattern actually. But the lug holes in the rotors are large enough so that they fit 5x115 also.

As long as they're designed to use the original caliper mounting on a 98-02 F-Body, yes. They're identical.

I have an extra set of spindles with bearings lying around that i can try all this stuff on, so that makes it easy.

my bad! you are correct! w/ their bolt pattern.

Let us know if the 14" rotors works, w/ the CTS-V brembo calipers. I'll do that and sell my SSBC 13" big brake kit. LOL 13" brake kit still are small inside my 20's. hehehehee

my friend just bought some porsche calipers, they're factory made by brembo. He got them w/ out the porsche logo or any logo, so it was alot cheaper. but the back of the caliper has brembo logo and small engraving.
