Just found your site through a link on another site. looks like a great place. I currently drive a dark blue 2004 with 131,000 miles purchased new in aug 05. I am on 2nd set of tires, brake rotor and pad set #8, replaced 1 air filter and 1 O2 sensor.other than that changed oil every 7-8,000 miles. just developed a new problem yesterday that has not yet been completely diagnosed, either 2 bad front wheel bearings or transmission final drive issue. otherwise very reliable car averages 31mpg.

3k miles is the rule of thumb for the general public. it really depends on the type of oil though and type of driving/engine hours.
welcome.

I almost had a heart attack when I forgot to change my oil, and changed it at 4,000 miles. I thought the thing would collapse.
Welcome to the site though.

compliments of badgrl, one of the car chicks that were on site for a month before being scared away.... You don't NEED to change it, until the light comes on. The computer in our cars keep track of all that. (not just rotations, or mileage)
welcome shortcut.

I don't know about all the other people, but i go by the oil life monitor...

When to Change Engine Oil-GM Oil Life System
The vehicle has a computer system that tells the owner when to change the engine oil and filter. This system is based on engine revolutions and engine temperature, and not on mileage. Based on driving conditions, the mileage at which an oil change will be indicated can vary considerably. For the oil life system to work properly, the system must be reset every time the oil is changed.
When the system has calculated that oil life has been diminished, the system will indicate that an oil change is necessary. A CHANGE ENGINE OIL message in the instrument panel cluster (IPC) will come on. The oil should be changed within the next two gasoline fill-ups after this message appears. It is possible that, if the car is being driven under the best condition, the oil life system may not indicate that an oil change is necessary for over a year. However, the engine oil and filter must be changed at least once a year and at this time the system must be reset
If the system is ever rest accidentally, the oil must be changed within 5000 km (3,000 mi) since the last oil change. Reset the oil life system whenever the oil is changed.
