the speed limiter is actually coded the PCM and the only way to change it is to either delete it using a tuner or get an aftermarket PCM.

Keep in mind that street racing stories including those of exceding the govener of 108 MPH are not allowed on here

Whats the use of going faster than 108 mph anyways? The Alero doesn't reach it on the 1/4 mile anyways beside a few guys. And anyways, when you are able to reach 108 mph on the 1/4, the PCM have probly been tweeked already.

My fastest 1/4 mile MPH is 92.94
I think BlackJack, BBB, and Kwhawk (sorry if I speeled it wrong) are the only ones I know of to get close to or pass 108 in the 1/4
They are all s/c'ed. Don't know about the turboed Aleros top 1/4 mile time

considering 108 mph brings you at about 13.6 on the 1/4 or even faster, I would think not even Spilner is reaching that.

^That's what ignorance says. The Alero is slow, buy a Corvette. Let's buy what the hell everyone else has and thinks is cool, so we can go FAAAAAAAAST.
I say if you want to go faster than the speed limits, find a safe area that does not have surface deformities (runway/race track), have the correct speed rated tire so it doesn't explode/shred beyond 100, and have at it. Stock, the Alero can reach 140+ MPH no problem. Modified, about 168MPH with drag taken into account. Far faster than you ever need to go..
Generally, if you have to ask how, you should not know. You're going to be an idiot that turns into another statistic for "street racing" on a poorly made public road with other vehicles and objects all over the road.

Dang, I was pretty sure the Alero topped out around 137, at least thats what my simulation program got the thing up to before drag kept it from going any faster. Who knows. Bottom line, it really shouldn't be done. I have a modified PCM but the limiter is there for a reason.
Anyone care to enlighten me as to how fast you would die after hitting a concrete wall doing 120 mph+ ? I'm willing to bet the answer is in tenths of seconds....

^wouldn't be measurable. its the INSTANT you hit the wall.... your heart tends to explode when it hits those rocks build around it to keep it safe.
humans weren't built to move that fast.

I know for a fact the GAGT tops out at 153. Considering the GAGT has a shorter top gear than the Alero does. The Alero could probably top at about 160. Of course it would take a while to actually get up that fast

You can die in a car accident going less than 30 MPH, at 120, you probably wouldn't feel it

Last time a thread like this was created it was locked before the third post! I would hate to see someone hurt by doing this...I would love to go faster but I would rather buy a different car first, or have bought one in the first place.

Aw man, I did it again, caused someone to remove their posts. Lol.
Side note, it's not fun to drive fast. It's the acceleration that's fun. At higher speeds you have little acceleration, so you don't feel anything as the car cruises along at near the same speed for a long time. It's much more fun modding your car and doing 0-45 or 0-70 pulls.

I just read this and disagree...I don't think its ignorance that would say not to tamper with the speed limiter, and you don't think everyone has an Alero? Pretty common car I think! Really if anyone was wanting to drive fast whether it be acceleration or top speed they should drive a car thats made for it or at least designed with that in mind. I've never seen anyone get an Alero up to 140 mph stock, I have a hard time believing that one. Maybe modified as you stated but not stock.
