why do some aleros have factory lower profile tires and some have the regular typical tire size? is it cuz the lower profile have a 16inch rim and the bigger tires have a 15 inch rim? i have 15 can i put the lower profile on that ud see stock on the aleros?

In your question you have your answer.
If you think the lower profile tires are on the 16 inch rims, and that you have 15 inch rims, well if you want to install the lower profile tires that you see on the Aleros on your 15 inch rims, when they are 16 inch rims, they wont fit at all, you still with me?
being a bit more serious, well If you want lower profile tire on 15 inch rim size, first of all, it will look like crap, second, your speedo will be off, third, dont do that.
If you want lower profile tire, you'll have to get some bigger rims, lets say 17 and up.
peace

that site will be your friend:
http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html
Use that to determine which size of tire to get with different diameter of wheels from the stock wheel ratio (On my car, on the side of the driver's door it says it is 205/65/15)

My driver's door states P215R60/15 so I guess it's just the difference in the years.

If you have the Sport Suspension (RPO code FE3) then you get all the FE3 struts, bushings, etc plus 225/50/16 rim/tire combination. That's what my Alero had.

It should be fine if you currently have 215/60/15s but your speedo will still be off.

not exactly.
The first number is the width. The second number is the aspect ratio. It is NOT a size measurement, but a percentage of the width. For example, a 225/50R16 tire has a 112.5mm sidewall.
Your overall tire height is calculated something like this.
Overall height in mm = 2(width x aspect ratio) + wheel diameter in mm
like this-
Height = 2(225x.50)+406.4
Height = 2(112.5)+406.4
Height = 225+406.4
Height = 631.4mm
or in inches it's 24.86

To add to the master (Cliff), the second number is a percentage. That's how Cliff is getting the 112.5 mm sidewall. Half of 225.
