I dont know, I thought that I knew about all the storage compartments on the alero. No one else nor me had ever seen that space on the lid.

I put my tins of tobacco in there u gotts shave down the inside of the area a little but they fit perfect after that

I sold my ashtray to an Aleromod smoker. No lighting anything in any of my cars. The lid of the center console is for the little packages of tissue, as has been pointed out. I never bothered, just kept a tire gauge and a couple CD's in the center console. My new 'armrest' has about enough room for a pack of gum and 3 Kleenex.

that ebay one posted, looks like the ashtray... i think i can see the little cigarette on the top.

i think what hes talking about is the one behind the shifter. most people just have an open cupholder, but some aleros have a little lid over that one...
